Let me tell you that, after visiting Laguna de Tota and Pantano de Vargas, on our third day in Boyacá we arrived at one of the most beautiful towns in Colombia.
This charming destination seems frozen in time. Its cobblestone streets, white colonial houses with wooden doors and windows, and balconies adorned with flowers create a unique landscape that blends perfectly with the green of the surrounding mountains. Even its main park preserves the stones that have witnessed centuries of history.
This is Villa de Leyva. One of the town’s main attractions is its Plaza Mayor, considered one of the largest in Latin America and the largest among Colombia’s colonial towns. It’s a truly beautiful place, especially because in the background you can see an imposing mountain that complements the landscape. Walking through its streets is a very pleasant experience, as is enjoying its cuisine, a good cup of coffee, or a craft beer—like the one I had on my first night to cool off after a rather hot day.
While I was there, I also changed the oil in the motorcycle. Although it was still within the tolerance range, I had already exceeded the ideal mileage for maintenance by about 400 kilometers, so I decided to go ahead and do it to keep the engine in good shape and maintain the motorcycle in top condition. While they were working on it, I went out to dinner with some friends and was pleasantly surprised by how delicious the food was.
The next day we visited a place I’ll tell you more about later, and on the way back we had time to explore the town again, enjoy a craft fair, visit its two churches—which, though small, have a special charm—buy some souvenirs, and, to round out the day, take a pleasant nighttime tour in a chiva.
Without a doubt, Villa de Leyva is a place I highly recommend visiting. In addition to its beauty and rich history, it exudes a tranquility that’s hard to find in other destinations. I’ll tell you more about the other places we visited later because… well, that’s another story!

Les cuento que, después de visitar la Laguna de Tota y el Pantano de Vargas, en nuestro tercer día por Boyacá llegamos a uno de los pueblos más bonitos de Colombia.
Este encantador destino parece detenido en el tiempo. Sus calles empedradas, sus casas coloniales de color blanco, con puertas y ventanas de madera, y sus balcones adornados con flores crean un paisaje único que combina perfectamente con el verde de las montañas que lo rodean. Incluso su parque principal conserva las piedras que han sido testigos de siglos de historia.
Se trata de Villa de Leyva, uno de los mayores atractivos del pueblo es su Plaza Mayor, considerada una de las más grandes de América Latina y la más grande de Colombia entre los pueblos coloniales. Es un lugar realmente hermoso, especialmente porque al fondo se aprecia una imponente montaña que complementa el paisaje. Caminar por sus calles es una experiencia muy agradable, al igual que disfrutar de su gastronomía, de un buen café o de una cerveza artesanal, como la que me tomé la primera noche para refrescarme después de un día bastante caluroso.
Aprovechando la estadía, también le realicé el cambio de aceite a la moto. Aunque todavía estaba dentro del rango de tolerancia, ya me había excedido unos 400 kilómetros del kilometraje ideal para el mantenimiento, así que preferí hacerlo para seguir cuidando el motor y mantener la moto en las mejores condiciones. Mientras realizaban el trabajo, fui a cenar con unos amigos y quedé gratamente sorprendido por lo deliciosa que estaba la comida.
Al día siguiente visitamos un lugar del cual les contaré más adelante y de regreso tuvimos tiempo para recorrer nuevamente el pueblo, disfrutar de una feria artesanal, visitar sus dos iglesias, que aunque son pequeñas tienen un encanto especial, comprar algunos recuerdos y, para cerrar la jornada, dar un agradable recorrido nocturno en chiva.
Sin duda, Villa de Leyva es un lugar que recomiendo visitar. Además de su belleza y riqueza histórica, transmite una tranquilidad difícil de encontrar en otros destinos. Sobre los demás lugares que conocimos les contaré más adelante porque... ¡esa! es otra historia.
