Lotus race in Spa

This week I may sit in one of this cool Lotus race cars.

Sure, not with the steering wheel, but with my cam mounted to the windows on the seat of the co-driver or sadly called "passenger".

Hey Hive Family
let us drive the world again

Spa FRANCORCHAMPS

A really nice race track close to Aachen and well known for the Formula 1 and other big events.

Spa, this is one of the most challenging race tracks in the world, mainly due to its fast, hilly and twisty nature. It hosts the Belgian GP, the 1000km sportscar race, the famous 24 hours and many other great event...

The original 14km lay out was first used in 1922, but after a series of incident filled races, it had to be revised. In 1979 the circuit was shortened to 7km. It still features the unpredictable weather, you can start a lap in the dry, get soaking wet halfway around the lap, and be dry again as you cross start/finish.

A view to the track

Here you see some bikes from my last visit some month ago. There is a post on Hive at https://peakd.com/hive-163772/@detlev/6-heures-motos-6-hours-of-motorcycles-6-stunden-rennen about the 6 hours moto from 2021 with some nice pics.

Lotus Elise

This nice little dream car will be my drive. I'm a bit nervous but luckily I go with a well trained driver.

Colin Chapman constructed a series of aerodynamically advanced, lightweight sports racing cars during the 1950s - typified by the Lotus Eleven that won its class at Le Mans in 1957. Often quoted, though still as valid today as when he first uttered the words at the launch of the Lotus Seven in 1957, Chapman's ethos was: to increase performance, add lightness .

Sport Editions Lotus Exige V6 Cup

There are different Lotus models out there and during my research - yes, it is good to be at least a bit prepared - I learned a lot.

The new road-going Lotus Exige V6 Cup builds upon the success of the previous Series 2 Exige Cup 240/255 and 260.
Based upon the road-going Exige S, the lightweight V6 Cup is powered by a 3.5 litre supercharged V6 engine, driving through a 6-speed close ratio gearbox providing an exhilarating thrill for racers and track enthusiasts.

It's always been my dream to ride race cars.

Awesome. A Lotus Elise or Exige is a dream car for me too.

During my research I found a few used Elise who are around 20-30k€

Still not something for me, but if hive dies another nice jump……

They're a bargain but they're also very impractical. For A to B trips you have to be careful where you park because if the front or rear clamshells get damaged, that's a 5-figure repair bill. But if a B point is the Nurburgring, I imagine it's all worth it.

If point B is Spa-Francorchamps it is as well OK.

I will bring my good sony cam and tele - so there will a bunch of pictures from Spa the next few days.

Hope the weather will be OK - I don't like Lotus cars in the rain

I even dream big to drive these cars with steering wheel.. 🙂.
