Sandpoint Idaho, Ham Exam - Saturday

in Pinmapple3 years ago (edited)

Yesterday was a banner day for me for sure. It really was the culmination of 30 years of my life experience coming together to help me float through my exam.

We were up normally and out soaking before getting the boys up around 7:30am. They needed time to get ready before we left as they are notoriously slow at getting out the door. It's like herding cats trying to get the two in the vehicle.

With everyone loaded up and already complaining we drove the hour north to Sandpoint and made it to the library 15 minutes early. I was the 4th one in the testing room and we ended up almost over full. Every chair got taken and 2 people were having to sit 3 to a table. We had a full range testing from 15 years to 70+. The 15 year old was one of 4 siblings that all tested various classes.

We were the first group to get the new setup they have that prints out a quite nice certificate for us. It is on thicker card stock type paper and is already framed on the wall above me. The new setup came with some serious learning curves which meant it took a good bot longer to get us all registered. Finally we got to start our tests and I was the first one done. I have read every one of the technician questions so many times the answers popped off the page at me.

I ended up missing two questions and I know which ones they are. The technician and general can miss 9 questions and still pass so I did perfectly fine. I toyed with the idea of taking my general exam as well but with the boys and @stryeyz waiting and zero studying I figured I wouldn't waste everyone's time.

After passing my exam we went to eat at one of our favorite places, the Bluebird Bakery and @stryeyz and myself had the avocado toast and the boys had breakfast pizza slices. It was a bit of a wait but more than well worth it. Such a healthy meal with locally sourced ingredients.

After eating we went for a walk around city beach. It was cool, cloudy, and windy but no rain.

The boys played on the playground a bit but mostly they played in the sand. The beach was largely vacant of people and the water level is super low in the lake, which is saying something for one of the deepest lakes in north America.

We made the walk out the pier to the mini statue of liberty. In summer there is water lapping at the edge of the pier but with the draw down of the lake for winter it is sand to the end.

After the walk around the beach we went to Foster's Crossing Antiques which has a train car full of yarn and a big selection of comic books. Plenty of antiques to browse throughout the building. I found a few comics to get and @stryeyz got more yarn (of course).

After our browsing we headed up to Laughing Dog Brewery for libations and more food for the ever hungry boys.

They fought over the maze book, like everything in life, but managed to share it enough to avert melt downs. We finished our drinks, filled our growlers, then after getting gas headed home.

Once home we quickly made our way out to the tub for a celebratory soak, the first of a few for the evening. As we sat there soaking the rains came through. It's pretty cool to watch the rain drops when they hit the water and the really tall counter drops that spring up.

Now that I have passed my technician exam I am already started studying for the general exam. It's to be raining again today, Man Utd plays Liverpool, I need to keep doting over my foot and try to heal it as fast as possible, we will be soaking a LOT, and hopefully get some cleaning done on the pig sty of a house (thanks to the boys).

Ah, Beautiful Sandpoint! Terrible traffic, but such a fantastic place. I've spent hours and hours enjoying all that Lake Pend Oreille has to offer, walked on that beach many times and enjoyed the lake!

Also congrats on your certification!

Thanks! Sandpoint is a gem. Traffic is such a pain but this time of year is pretty mellow, summer is the crux. The pan handle has some absolutely gorgeous places hidden all around.

My Mom still lives in Clark Fork, and I attended High School there as well.

Learned how to water ski, boat and much more from Hope, ID where we lived for many years when our kids were in school.

So you know many of those hidden treasures. The population explosion is definitely showing in the INW, it will be interesting to see how the noobs handle winter...

At least there's a bypass instead of the old downtown Hwy. 95 snarl...

I can only think of one thing to say in response to this post...

Whoa, Black Betty, ham exam!

Lol! Now that song is stuck in my head.
