Zagreb, Croatia - City to City Tour 030

After spending 8 days on an adventure tour, my dad and I were dropped off in Zagreb. We got a hotel for two nights which gave us some time to explore this beautiful capitol city of Croatia.

We arrived in the late afternoon, so on the first day we didn't do a whole lot. We got cleaned up at the hotel and went out for a great sushi dinner. On the next day, we went out and wandered the streets.

Zagreb is a gorgeous city with a cool architectural style and intricate decorations on the buildings. There are also a number of big statues.

The churches and cathedrals were the highlight of Zagreb for me. The Cathedral of Zagreb has such a stark and bold style, but the edges are so finely decorated. It's an interesting contrast that has a certain harmony to it.

I'm also a big fan of the statues built into the walls and doorways.

There's something about this kind of finely detailed work that draws me in. The hours it must have taken to create all of this art is awe inspiring.

St. Marks Church is an absolute delight to see. The bright mosaic on the roof really stands out. The structure of the church seems fairly tame, but roof and decorations are bright and exciting.

The weather was perfect and the bright blue sky provided the perfect backdrop for this curious building.

@leaky20 recently made a post about doors. This door in Zagreb is so pretty it hurts! I could have spent 30 minutes just marveling at it.

This one isn't too shabby either.

Here's another one for all of the door-enthusiasts on Hive.

The city of Zagreb is pretty, clean, and walkable. My dad and I enjoyed wandering around and exploring the city. We found a market area with crafts and handmade goods in a little park area. We also stopped at an outdoor area for a beer and snacks.

I loved these strange, stark lamps. Besides doors, I kind of have a thing for lamps. These aren't the prettiest lamps, but they are full of character.

Some of the buildings in Zagreb are just too cool to ignore. Zagreb is a great place for wandering and getting lost in the small, intriguing details.

We also visited a museum while wandering the city. Almost nothing is more boring that posts full of pictures of things found in museums. Some people are able to pull it off, but usually they're unbearable. With that said, the museum had some pretty awesome stuff. There was an Egyptian exhibit that really sent my mind on a walkabout.

This document was one of the exhibits and it has me pondering so many questions. Is this an accounting document or a story of some sort? What the heck does all of this mean? Who are the people who made this?

Anyways, it was something that I thought was super cool, but basically has nothing to do with Zagreb.

After only one full day in Zagreb, we boarded an early train back towards Budapest. Since we'd already seen Budapest, we decided to make a stop on the way there. Looking at the map, we found a spot that looked like it might be cool to visit. Stay tuned for that in the post next.

Nice doors!
Those are beautiful photos. I love all the details of the city, the colors and the lamposts. I have a thing for lamposts as well. Very nice
