A QUICK TRIP

We were in love with Orongan Beach Resort the first time our family went there. It's a beach located in San Remigio in the northwestern part of Cebu, Philippines. I wrote about the first time we went there as part of my Travels after the Lockdown series. We stayed there for 3 days and 2 nights and we had so much fun. The place was spacious and the beach was so good with its white sand and clear waters. You can check out that trip from the link below.

Traversing the Island: Travels after the Lockdown Part 3

For this post, I will be sharing with you our recent return trip to the beach. My family wanted to stay overnight but when I called the resort, they were fully booked because it was Holy Week. I resigned to the idea that we were not going to the beach anymore. A day after, I realized that I could try to book for day use only. I called the resort again and thankfully, they had cottages available for day use. I booked them right away and we scheduled for a quick trip to the beach.

San Remigio is at least a 2-hour drive from the main cities in Cebu. We started our trip early at 5 AM in the morning. I remember we were having trouble waking up my niece because she still wanted to sleep. We were tempted to leave her behind but my mother was able to wake her and drag her to the car. She was still in her sleeping clothes.

It was a lovely day for our trip. We arrived at the beach and the sun was shining bright. It was also low-tide when we arrived so we just took our time preparing our food and enjoying the view.

The resort was fully booked but there weren't a lot of people, unlike the first time we went there. I think the resort was following strict health protocols and was limiting the number of people at the beach. Honestly, I did not wear my mask throughout the entire day at the beach. I only wore it when we arrived and when we left.

A BIRTHDAY

We celebrated my brother's birthday on this trip and my mother prepared a lot of food for us. I always tell her to just prepare enough food for our celebrations because I do not want any food wastage. I think she prepared just enough. We all had our fill of it from our breakfast to our dinner.

I knew we only had the day to enjoy the beach but it felt like time slowed down. We were able to get the most of our whole day at the beach.

THE BEACH

At around noontime, the tide had risen. It was so hot but the water was very inviting. We lathered our skins with sunblock but I only put it on my face. I wanted a tan on my body but I didn't know that I still needed the sunblock for UV protection. I ended up having a bad case of sunburn after sunbathing under the scorching heat.

What I like about this beach is that the water level is almost constant whether you're near the resort or far out for hundreds of meters. That means you can enjoy swimming without worrying about going far into deep waters. The downside is that when it's low tide, everything is low tide. There's not enough water to swim in.

SUNSET

At around 5 PM, the water had already receded and the sun was hanging low near the horizon. The western part of Cebu gets the best sunsets. Everyone took to their phones to take a picture of the sunset. The sun was so round and distinct that people played around taking pictures as if they were holding it.

We were getting ready to leave and I just spent a few minutes taking in the sunset. The shadows were getting longer and the sky was also getting darker. We packed up and took one last look at the beach.

We will definitely be coming back. The place is sort of a hidden gem. Not a lot of people know about it and that's a good thing. I don't want to come back to a very crowded beach. Or maybe I have developed anxiety for crowded places because of the virus. I've recently visited a famous beach in the southern part of Cebu and I was really bothered about the size of the crowd that was there.

I know the pandemic is still with us but I'm just thankful that the number of cases in our place is not rising at an alarming rate. I am grateful to be able to just decide when to go to the beach and for the nearby beautiful beaches on our island.

That's it! Thank you so much for taking the time to read my post and going through my photos. I will be writing fewer travel posts because I have found joy in writing about food and books.
