Walking to Heddons Mouth (and back again...)

I've posted a few recently, so after this post, I'm going to leave off the North Devon pictures, for a while at least, and look further afield. I've just found these shots from a visit last year and felt compelled to share them with you though!

Heddons Mouth a rocky cove, with a stone and shingle beach at the outlet of the River Heddon, on the north coast of Devon, in the middle of Exmoor. It's a short drive from Lynton or Combe Martin. We parked up at the National Trust car park about a mile or so up the valley from the coast, close to the Hunter's Inn, a lovely hotel, pub, and restaurant which serves pizza cooked in their outside pizza oven in the Summer months (recommended!)

From there, there's a couple of walks on either side of the river, which takes you down to the cove. You'll find yourself walking past fields filled with livestock, through wooded areas, over stone-built bridges, and along the edge of moorland. We walked down to the cove on northern side, and returned on the southern side, which returned us directly into the gardens of the Hunter's Inn.

Once you're down at the cove you'll find yourself in a stunning location, with minimal people to share the space with, and no signs of the usual facilities you'll find in a tourist spot, so go prepared with everything you'll need.

It's a great place to go for a swim, the water was pretty calm when we went, and there are lots of rocky outcrops to swim to. If ever you're in the area, you really should visit. Here's a few pictures from my walk, along the valley and back again...
