Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek in Nepal - Photos Part 2

in Pinmapple4 years ago

In part 1, I left you after our arrival at Ghorepani.

One of the main reasons why one should do this trek is watching the sunrise over the Annapurna mountain range at the Poon Hill lookout. Only drawback though, you need to wake up before the sun and hike for 45 minutes before you can enjoy the beauty.

From this lookout point, and with good weather of course, you can see the summits of some of the tallest mountains in the world. These are, among others, Mt. Dhaulagiri (8167m.), Nilgiri (6940m.), Annapurna Fang (7647m.), Mt. Annapurna South (7219m.), Hiunchuli (6441m.) and Machapuchare (6993m.). I'm sorry, I forgot the names of the others.

One word of advice though, is to cover yourself very well because it is freezing up there until the sun's rays starts to shine and warm up the place a bit. There are quite a few people around and so it may be a bit tricky to get a nice clear shot.

We then got back on the trail to Ghorepani to finish packing our belongings and headed towards Tadapani.

Lodge we spent the night at.

This is the lodge where we spent the night, I can't remember if it was actually before or after Tadapani.

Basic Comfort

As you can see, the comfort is very basic, but when you're trekking, all you need is a bed to sleep and recharge the batteries.

Hot shower... when the heater is working

Another thing which is really appreciated and makes you feel much better after walking a whole day is a hot shower. Well the one here had the word hot written above the door but unfortunately, the heater was not working. I tried to take my shower as it was but I quickly gave up and dressed up again. The water was coming straight from the stream around and I kid you not, it was ice cold.

Luckily for us, the owner of the place was kind enough to heat up some water in a bucket for a small fee. so here we were with 2 buckets, 1 with ice cold and 1 with very hot water for 2 people. That was actually good enough for my dad and I to freshen up and remove the smell of perspiration from our skin.

Morning Teeth Brushing

This was how we brushed our teeth most mornings, with the ice cold water coming straight from the stream.
Ready to resume the hike towards Ghandruk where we spent the next night.

Here are some of the sights from Tadapani to Ghandruk and then back to Nayapul where we ended the trek the next day.

This vacation, including the week before in Kathmandu and Chitwan National Park was great for my father and I to bond together and share an unforgettable experience that we could always go back to. These are memories that we sometimes talk about with nostalgia and happiness.

I think we should plan another father and son trip similar to this while he is still active and healthy enough. Let me talk to him tomorrow and let's see what we can come up with.
