Hace siete años, después de varios meses de experimentar el agotador trabajo de ser padres primerizos, mi esposo y yo decidimos hacer una pausa y regalarnos un viaje para cambiar nuestro interminable día a día. Así que luego de investigar las opciones decidimos visitar a Alemania. Bueno, está bien, no fue Alemania 🤣 propiamente dicho, pero sí que nos acercamos y sin salir del país nos fuimos a La Colonia Tovar, mejor conocida como el Pueblo Alemán de Venezuela.

Como les había dicho, éramos primerizos y nuestro primer hijo apenas tenía cuatro meses de edad. Así que después de empacar hasta la bañera y el corral del bebé, emprendimos el viaje. Creo que no les había comentado que La Colonia Tovar es uno de mis lugares favoritos para visitar porque está ubicada muy cerca de Caracas, la capital de Venezuela en donde vivo. Es un viaje de aproximadamente de 2-3 horas por carretera y existen dos vías para llegar a este maravilloso lugar.

Vía El Junquito
Está fue la vía que utilizamos de ida. Es la más transitada y conocida porque es la opción más rápida y en el camino te encuentras con varios sitios donde parar a comer. La principal oferta gastronómica son varios restaurantes que ofrecen esquisiteces culinarias para los más carnívoros. Si eres de los que les gusta el chicharrón, chorizos, morcillas y salchichas este sería el paraíso. Sin embargo, a mi parecer esta opción es poco saludable y el camino ofrece muy pocas vistas interesantes. En general es una vía poco agraciada.

Vía El Jarillo
Por esta vía retornamos a Caracas. En contraposición con la anterior, la vía de El Jarillo es una carretera que atraviesa el Parque Nacional Macarao y ofrece vistas excepcionales de montañas, la posibilidad de que te lances en parapente y opciones gastronómicas más naturales. Aunque es una vía mucho más hermosa, es la vía más larga y algo escabrosa, pero vale la pena transitarla. El hermoso paisaje montañoso te invita a hacer paradas y tomar muchas fotografías. Además, el clima es super agradable.

Hospedaje 5 estrellas
Habíamos reservado en la Posada Don Elicio. Una posada cinco estrellas que nos costó un ojo de la cara. 🤣 Pero la verdad es que el sitio lo vale. Ubicada a pocos kilómetros de la entrada del pueblo y al borde de la montaña, Don Elicio es una casa de dos pisos fabricada en madera, techo de machihembrado, con detalles en ladrillo y piedra y mucho hierro forjado. El ambiente que se respira es de total tranquilidad. Recuerdo que la anfitriona nos recibió con mucha familiaridad y cortesía. El servicio aquí es realmente de cinco estrellas. Los días que estuvimos allí pudimos disfrutar de una maravillosa habitación que tenía dos balcones con mirador hacia la hermosa vista de la montaña. El paquete que elegimos incluía desayuno, cena y hasta un concierto de violín. De verdad que la pasamos genial y nos dejamos consentir. Nos olvidamos por un momento de todo y de todos. Sólo éramos los tres compartiendo un inolvidable fin de semana.

Las habitaciones son hermosas. Con lencería muy bonita y además las camas tenían mosquiteros 😊 Según la anfitriona, la habitación donde dormimos era una de la más calientes en las noches. Sin embargo, debido a que no había calefacción se sentía mucho frío en las noches.

Una probada de lo que es comer en este sitio. Nuestro desayuno del segundo día no podía ser más criollo. Arepa con caraota, queso, pollo guisado, huevos revueltos, jugo de fresa, mimosa de naranja y chocolate caliente 😍 ¡Un desayuno excelente para comenzar bien el día!

Decidimos cenar adentro junto a la chimenea porque estaba haciendo mucho frío para nuestro pequeño.

Recomiendo esta posada el servicio fue excelente, nos sentimos como en casa con decirles que hasta nos esterilizaban los teteros de mi niño 😍.
Si quieren ir a un lugar tranquilo en pareja o con su familia y pasar un rato distinto les recomiendo este lugar 😊
El Pueblo Alemán
La Colonia Tovar es la capital del municipio Tovar del estado Aragua en Venezuela. Esta bella colonia se le conoce como el Pueblo Alemán porque se erigió de inmigrantes alemanes que llegaron a esta bello lugar por un intercambio cultural con el fin de que trabajaran la agricultura y la minería. Este intercambio se hizo posible durante el mandato del General José Antonio Páez en el año 1840. El territorio fue elegido por las similitudes geográficas y climáticas con la cordillera alemana Kaiserstuhl. Para el año 1842 se embarcaron un total de 389 personas, compuestas por 289 hombres y 150 mujeres. Actualmente la población de la colonia aciende a alrededor de 21.600 habitantes. La mayoría de Kaiserstuhl. Cabe destacar que los colonos llegaron 112 días después a estas tierras donde colonizarían y fundarían la Colonia Tovar. El nombre dado al pueblo se debe al apellido de la persona que donó las tierras, Manuel Felipe Tovar quien era sobrino del Conde Tovar.

En esta cordillera predomina un clima típico de montaña. La temperatura media anual oscila entre los 10˚C y 20˚C, por lo que es un clima bastante fresco para los que le gusta el frío. La economía de este pueblo es diversificada, siendo la agricultura, cervecería y charcutería una de sus principales industrias. La artesanía también juega un papel fundamental representada en la fabricación de pan, pastelería, salsas, pasta y chocolate. También se han convertido en grandes maestros trabajando con la cerámica, la madera, el vidrio y el hierro forjado.
Entrando al pueblo de la Colonia Tovar. Al fondo se puede apreciar una tienda de venta de instrumentos y artesanía. 😍
Los turistas como nosotros, por lo general simplemente hacen un recorrido por sus principales calles y visitamos todos los establecimientos. 😁 La iglesia de San Martín de Tours, el Museo de Historia y Artesanía, el casco histórico, el Pico Codazzi, la Plaza Codazzi y la Cervecería Tovar son sus principales sitios turísticos. Alrededor de la plaza aprovechamos de comprar vegetales, frutas, flores, dulces y artesanías en la plaza que está cerca de la iglesia en donde los agricultores y artesanos venden sus productos. Allí podemos conseguir fresas, duraznos, moras, higos, granadillas, tomates de árbol, brócoli, coliflor, lechuga, zanahoria, papa, entre otros.

Puedes encontrar diversos restaurantes que se ajustan a todos los bolsillos.
Puedes hacer un viaje ida y vuelta si no quieres quedarte, pero lo mejor es quedarse por lo menos una noche para conocer mejor el lugar 😁
El turismo es otra de sus formas de generar ingresos. Sus hermosas vistas de montañas, casas pintorescas y toda su fuerza de trabajo vestidos al mejor estilo Alemán te transportan a otra parte fuera de Venezuela. Cuando llegas a este hermoso pueblo, no puedes ser indiferente al sitio y te provoca probar su gastronomía comenzando con un delicioso chocolate caliente y luego degustar su comida alemana como las famosas salchichas con papa o los dulces y panes que son deliciosos. Hay otros que optan por quedarse un par de noches en las posadas que son bellísimas y los lugareños te tratan con calidez y mucha cortesía.

Seven years ago, after several months of experiencing the exhausting work of being new parents, my husband and I decided to take a break and treat ourselves to a trip to change our never-ending day-to-day life. So after researching the options we decided to visit Germany. Well, okay, it wasn't Germany 🤣 per se, but we did get close and without leaving the country we went to La Colonia Tovar, better known as the German Village of Venezuela.

As I had told you, we were first timers and our first son was barely four months old. So after packing even the baby's bathtub and playpen, we set out on our journey. I don't think I had told you that Colonia Tovar is one of my favorite places to visit because it is located very close to Caracas, the capital of Venezuela where I live. It is about a 2-3 hour trip by road and there are two ways to get to this wonderful place.

Via El Junquito
This was the road we used on the way out. It is the busiest and best known because it is the fastest option and on the way, you find several places to stop for lunch. The main gastronomic offer is several restaurants that offer culinary delicacies for the most carnivorous. If you are one of those who like pork rind, black pudding, and sausages, this would be paradise. However, in my opinion, this option is unhealthy and the road offers very few interesting views. Overall it is an ungraceful road.

Via El Jarillo
By this route, we return to Caracas. In contrast to the previous one, the El Jarillo road is a road that crosses the Macarao National Park and offers exceptional mountain views, the possibility of paragliding, and more natural gastronomic options. Although it is a much more beautiful road, it is the longest and somewhat rougher road, but it is well worth the drive. The beautiful mountain scenery invites you to make stops and take lots of pictures. In addition, the weather is super nice.

5 star accommodation
We had booked at the Posada Don Elicio. A five-star inn that cost us an arm and a leg. 🤣 But the truth is that the place is worth it. Located a few kilometers from the entrance of the village and on the edge of the mountain, Don Elicio is a two-story house made of wood, tongue, and groove roof, with brick and stone details and lots of wrought iron. The atmosphere is one of total tranquility. I remember that the hostess greeted us with great familiarity and courtesy. The service here is really five stars. The days we were there we were able to enjoy a wonderful room with two balconies overlooking the beautiful view of the mountain. The package we chose included breakfast, dinner, and even a fiddle concert. We really had a great time and let ourselves be pampered. We forgot about everything and everyone for a moment. It was just the three of us sharing an unforgettable weekend.

The rooms are beautiful. With very nice linens and also the beds had mosquito nets 😊 According to the hostess, the room where we slept was one of the warmest at night. However, because there was no heating it felt very cold at night.

A taste of what it's like to eat at this place. Our breakfast on the second day couldn't have been more creole. Arepa with black beans, cheese, stewed chicken, scrambled eggs, strawberry juice, orange mimosa, and hot chocolate. 😍 An excellent breakfast to start the day right!

I highly recommend this inn, the service was excellent, we felt at home and they even sterilized my child's bottles 😍.
If you want to go to a quiet place as a couple or with your family and spend a different time I recommend this place 😊.
The German Village
Colonia Tovar is the capital of the Tovar municipality in the state of Aragua in Venezuela. This beautiful colony is known as the German Village because it was erected by German immigrants who came to this beautiful place for a cultural exchange in order to work in agriculture and mining. This exchange was made possible during the mandate of General José Antonio Páez in 1840. The territory was chosen for its geographic and climatic similarities with the German Kaiserstuhl mountain range. For the year 1842, a total of 389 people embarked, composed of 289 men and 150 women. In this mountain range, a typical mountain climate prevails. The average annual temperature ranges between 10˚C and 20˚C, making it a fairly cool climate for those who like the cold. The economy of this town is diversified, with agriculture, brewing, and charcuterie being one of its main industries. Craftsmanship also plays a fundamental role represented in the manufacture of bread, pastries, sauces, pasta, and chocolate. They have also become great masters working with ceramics, wood, glass, and wrought iron.

Tourists like us, usually just take a tour of its main streets and visit all the establishments. 😁 The church of San Martin de Tours, the Museum of History and Crafts, the historic center, the Pico Codazzi, the Plaza Codazzi and the Tovar Brewery are its main tourist sites. Around the square we take the opportunity to buy vegetables, fruits, flowers, sweets and handicrafts in the square near the church where farmers and artisans sell their products. There we can get strawberries, peaches, blackberries, figs, pomegranates, tree tomatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, lettuce, carrots, potatoes, among others.

You can do a round trip if you don't want to stay, but it is best to stay at least one night to get to know the place better 😁.
Tourism is another way to generate income. Its beautiful mountain views, picturesque houses and all its work force dressed in the best German style transport you to another part outside of Venezuela. When you arrive to this beautiful town, you cannot be indifferent to the place and it provokes you to try its gastronomy starting with a delicious hot chocolate and then taste its German food such as the famous sausages with potatoes or the sweets and breads that are delicious. There are others who choose to stay a couple of nights in the inns that are beautiful and the locals treat you with warmth and courtesy.
