Sculpted by weather, erosion and time, the cool rock formations in the middle of the Uyuni salt flat desert, Bolivia are special to see.
Those rock are carved out of volcanic rock.
Stunning to see.
They appear like a mirage through the natural beauties of the desert.
This one looks like an eagle ready to attack its prey.
Wondering where all these stones come from?
Long ago, there was a great deal of volcanic activity in the area, as evidenced by the magnificent Apagado volcano which rises to 5,700 meters high.
The most popular, the iconic "Stone Tree" or Arbol de Piedra.
Part of the Andean Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve of Fauna, it is a 7 meter high rock formation that looks like a tree that is several million years old.
The intense winds that blow in the area and the composition of the rock have helped to give it this particular shape.
The pieces that are found on the ground nearby have already been part of this strange tree.
To preserve it, it is forbidden to touch it or climb on it, but there are many other rock formations nearby you can touch and on which you can always walk without problem.
The Valle de Rocas Bolivia stretches for about 16 km and allows us to admire an atypical and fascinating landscape at the foot of an extinct volcano that will never be forgotten.
