See what the traditional costumes and instruments of Polish highlanders looked like. We can see them thanks to Mieczyslaw Cholewa, whose passion was photography, "documenting and collecting folk costumes and equipment" and his collections can be seen at the Ethnographic Museum in Warsaw.

In this showcase there are various elements of highlander costumes - highlander pants (called góralskie portki), a sukman (or men's coat), a linen men's shirt, a shepherd's bag with beautiful embroidery, a hat with shells and a feather, a shirt clip, a belt , a pipe, Kierpce (traditional leather shoes). I have always wondered why there are small shells on the hat of people living in the mountains. It turns out that the explanations vary, including such that the highlanders brought them from their trips to the sea. I really like highlander costumes, they are colorful and full of interesting embroidery.
W tej gablocie znajdują się różne elementy góralskich strojów - portki góralskie (w góralskiej gwarze tak nazywa się spodnie), sukmana (czyli płaszcz męski), lniana koszula męska, torba bacowska z pięknymi wyszyciami, kapelusz z muszelkami i piórkiem, spinka do koszuli, pas, fajka , kierpce (tradycyjne skórzane buty). Zawsze zastanawiałam się czemu na kapeluszu ludzi żyjących w górach znajdują się małe muszelki. Okazuje się, że wytłumaczenia są różne, m.in. takie, że górale przywieźli je z wędrówek nad morze. Bardzo podobają mi się góralskie stroje, są kolorowe, pełno na nich ciekawych haftów.

Niesamowita jest ta ogromna, wycinanka z papieru, w kształcie góralskiego haftu. Możecie zobaczyć jaka jest wielka w porównaniu do wielkości kontaktu, albo parapetu.
I was also delighted with these traditional highlander instruments. Podhale bagpipes, also called (dialectally) a goat. I like the wood carved goat head on this instrument and its long pipes. Another characteristic highlander instrument is the violin. The instrument has a beautifully carved floral pattern.
Zachwyciły mnie też te tradycyjne góralskie instrumenty. Dudy podhalańskie, zwane również gwarowo kozą. Podoba mi się wykonana z drewna, wyrzeźbiona kozia głowa na tym instrumencie oraz jego długie piszczałki. Innym charakterystycznym góralskim instrumentem są skrzypce. Na instrumencie został pięknie wyrzeźbiony kwiatowy wzór.
