Rapaniana is a small town that I visited during my stay on the island of Crete. I stopped there for a moment at a huge fig prickly pear with ripe fruit. They are edible and healthy, but you have to remember that they are cacti and have spines that you need to get rid of before eating them.
Rapaniana to małe miasteczko, które odwiedziłam podczas mojego pobytu na Krecie. Zatrzymałam się tam na chwilę przy ogromnej opuncji figowej, pokrytej dorodnymi, dojrzałymi owocami. Są jadalne i zdrowe, ale trzeba pamiętać o tym, że to kaktusy i mają kolce, których przed zjedzeniem trzeba się pozbyć.
This beautiful prickly pear was a landmark for me, thanks to which I knew how to move around the town. I always turned by it and either walked south, towards the sea along the path where tall reeds grew, or I took the road north, walked past the houses here, and a moment later I was on the main road with shops, restaurants and a bus stop.
Ta piękna opuncja była dla mnie punktem orientacyjnym, dzięki któremu wiedziałam jak poruszać się po miasteczku. Zawsze skręcałam przy niej i albo szłam na południe, w stronę morza ścieżką przy której rosły wysokie trzciny, albo wybierałam drogę na północ, przechodziłam obok tutejszych domów i chwilę później byłam przy głównej drodze, przy której znajdowały się sklepy, restauracje i przystanek autobusowy.
When I was walking along the small streets around Rapanian, I passed various interesting houses. I really liked this white cottage, with stairs without handrails, flat roof and a terrace with a wooden ceiling covered with vines.
Gdy spacerowałam małymi uliczkami po Rapanianie, mijałam różne ciekawe domostwa. Bardzo spodobał mi się ten biały domek, ze schodami bez poręczy, płaskim dachem i tarasem z drewnianą sufitem porośniętym winoroślą.
I liked the nature here. The flower in the photo below is the trailing African daisy or shrubby daisybush. I love getting to know new plant species and a trip to Crete was an opportunity for me to broaden my knowledge in this subject.
Podobała mi się tutejsza przyroda. Kwiat na zdjęciu poniżej to stokrotka afrykańska. Uwielbiam poznawać nowe gatunki roślin i wyjazd na Kretę był dla mnie okazją, żeby poszerzyć swoja wiedzę w tym temacie.
At this place, however, I was stopped by bougainvillea flowers and a wonderful butterfly, the Old World swallowtail (Papilio machaon). The prettiest butterfly I've seen this year, drinking nectar from intensely red flowers. Such moments of stopping in the here and now, observing the natural world, are cool.
W tym miejscu za to zatrzymały mnie kwiaty bugenwilli i cudowny motyl Paź królowej. Najładniejszy motyl, jaki widziałam w tym roku, spijający nektar z intensywnie czerwonych kwiatów. Fajne są takie momenty zatrzymania w tu i teraz, obserwowania świata przyrody.
There were huge araucarias on the main road in the town. I rarely see them in my country of this size and I liked the fact that I am surrounded by a completely different nature than on a daily basis.
Przy głównej drodze w miasteczku rosły olbrzymie araukarie. Rzadko widuje je w Polsce, takiej wielkości i podobało mi się, że otacza mnie zupełnie inna przyroda niż na co dzień.
This is what the wilder part of Rapaniana looked like, on the way to the sea. As you walked there you could hear the loud chirping of cicadas.
A tak wyglądała bardziej dzika część Rapaniany, po drodze nad morze. Idąc tam słychać było głośne cykanie cykad.
