Alcatraz is a surreal place, so near yet so far from freedom and looks like it was pretty busy during your visit. I went about ten years ago and remember my tour was pretty deserted which added to the erriness of the whole visit

indeed it was pretty crowded and hot that day! they had night tours less crowded, but I wouldn't like that place at night haha
