Good morning Hivians from the West of Melbourne I hope you're all having a wonderful time. I've been a busy chap moving houses this weekend. We're moving to a new suburb in Melbourne's West and soon to commence construction on our new family home. We're excited!
But today I showcase to you the beautiful Werribee State Rose Garden .
The Werribee State Rose Garden came to be in 1976 when the state of Victoria declared itself as the Garden State, I'm not really sure what that means but I think it's to do with our states investment in maintaining and developing gardens across the state. We have some of the best in the country.
The Werribee Rose Garden after meeting significant financial stagnations was finally completed and opened in 1986.
With 5 hectares of land developed in a Rose formation there are over 5000 different roses on display.
Entry to the garden is free and the general public is able to enjoy a walk amongst the roses surrounded by open fields and horse stables as much of the land in this area is undeveloped. Which is also right opposite the Werribee Open Range Zoo.
The Rose Garden is operated and managed by a committee of volunteers whom through fund raising and small government grants maintain the grounds all year round. Anyone is able to nominate to become a volunteer and help maintain the grounds with annual events including Rose clipping and educational activities teaching the public everything about roses and how to maintain them.
In the centre of the garden is a beautiful Victorian era gazebo which provides 360 degree views of the entire garden. A prized location for weddings when roses are in full bloom.
Some fun facts:
In the 90s the Rose Garden came under threat of closure and demolition as the area began being developed for housing. The volunteers quickly got to work planting a boundary of historical roses. An early version of the modern Rose. This boundary consists of 500 species of historical roses.
In the year 2000 a donation of David Austin roses (English Roses) saw the establishment of a perfumed rose garden section in the shape of a rose pedal.
The Rose garden continues to remain one of Victoria's tourist destinations and providing wonderful backdrops for the perfect special occasion.

Such a gorgeous rose garden, anyone will feel good if they go there...
Oh, I just had a moment of pure bliss when I thought about how good that garden must smell! My brain then subsequently broke when I thought about taking in 5000 roses, egads! Thank you so much for sharing that beautiful garden with us and congrats on the new house!:)
