It was not the best time of year to be in Nepal, late July being there monsoon season but we had heard so many good things about the country and basically it was on my way from Australia to Europe. So bad weather or not I thought I was worth a visit. Some times being at a place off season means you can see it without big numbers of other tourists around.
From Kathmandu we travelled East to try and do a little hiking.
I am only just 6 feet tall, had to stoop to get through he doors and my head almost touched the ceiling.
My favourite personalised T shirt, saying "World hard seat tour 1991"
After the hiking attempt we tried a National park safari.
I felt so lucky to get this photo and get so close. My camera was just a cheap 35mm no zoom. It all happened pretty quickly. Our tour guides seemed to have some sort of a plan even though they said they couldn't always find rhinos. After tramping around the long grass for a while our elephant started going backwards. At first I wasn't sure why or even if our driver was in control but some how we had gotten too close to this Mother Rhino and it's baby in the long grass. I had never thought about it but they said Elephants are afraid of rhinos, especially a mother, if it feels to need to protect its young one. Luckily our elephant backed away we all got a few photos and the rhinos were on there way.
Such good mems. With world the way it is, at least we have good memories of what it felt to travel freely!

looks great, you had lots of fun. It is strange that no monkeys in your pictures. I know you had a lot with them at Soyambunath. THey used to snatch snacks from the hands of the people, so clever and fast.
Good pick up rosecane, There were a few but not as many I was expecting. !LOL
