The Yungas, more than ecosystems, are true regions, they are regions or ecoregions of the Andean forest and the mountain jungle along the eastern flank of the central Andes.At the end of 2018 I visited the Argentine part that includes the provinces of Salta and Jujuy and I found a biodiversity so wide that it is almost impossible to express it in words. The Yungas biome is fundamental to the ecological balance of much of South America, especially for many plant and animal species.

We are talking about a valley located just 16 km away from Sibiu, on the same road that leads to the overpopulated mountain resort Păltiniș.There is no doubt that Păltiniș gained all the rights to be so visited by lots of people, especially during the winter where many slopes are waiting for all kind of winter sports lovers, but there are way more things to discover before reaching it.

And for now we get up at 4:30 in the morning and we are all like zombies. The final check of the backpacks, breakfast, and after some waiting we set out on foot from the hotel along the asphalt road (it was planned to get by car to the beginning of the hiking trail, but for some reason the car did not come for us in time). We have to carry food on this trekking with us, almost all of it was loaded into a huge blue plastic barrel — at our final destination there will be no shops or hotels. I wonder how the porters will carry it?
