This church is located in the city center of Porto (the second largest city in Portugal) and is close to the famous square of the Marquis of Pombal. In this Church, if you go up the tower you can have the best panoramic view of the city of Porto.
This Church has a monumental granite facade. Highlighting a set of several stained glass windows on the life of Christ and Mary. The interior is influenced by Roman basilicas, Mozarabic and Gothic art. The author of the project was inspired by Byzantine and Arabic art. The Great Organ is installed in the high choir. The façade has two towers, the largest of which is fifty meters long. Inside it is installed a carillon consisting of eighteen bells.
The interior of this church is very beautiful, with very asymmetric colors and everything is very detailed and organized. In this Church you feel a lot of space around you.
One thing I like to see in churches is the total architecture of the church but especially the ceilings. Usually the ceilings are very well worked and with a lot of paintings.
These long candelabras also give a sense of grandeur over the space. I strongly advise you to visit and enter the church, do not just visualize its exterior because the interior also has a lot to see and a lot of history to tell.
This location is in the center of the port and there are plenty of public transport that stop here. Admission is also free, so take advantage of those in the city of Porto.
