Camping Waterhout Almere, Netherlands - My Summer Days

in Worldmappin3 months ago (edited)

Today it is very hot weather in the Netherlands, and I feel like my body is melting. I was outside in the morning, and when I came back to my room, I looked like fried chicken. So, I decided to stay in my room. Even though I was born in a country where 35 degrees Celsius is nothing, the heat in Europe hits harder. My brown skin becomes red easily and gets burned. I find it very strange, and that's why I always have to cover myself with a decent amount of sunscreen and clothes, but all I can do is reduce the damage. This week we are having hot summer days, and even though I am struggling, I manage to go outside every day and take a stroll in the city, enjoy cold drinks... Because I know soon there will be rainy, depressing weather back.

When there is sunny weather, beach activities are a must in the Netherlands. I am not a fan of the beaches, but I often try to find spots near the canals where shadow meets the sunshine. It's a nice feeling relaxing in the shadow, near a canal, while enjoying reading a book and some snacks with cold drinks. So, a day before yesterday, I decided to go to the nearby beach area in my city.

Camping Waterhout Almere, Netherlands

So, my destination was Camping Waterhout Almere, one of the closest beach areas to my place. So, to go there, I needed to take a bus, which was 17 minutes ride, and then walk for another 35 minutes to reach the desired location. Since I walk very slowly in the heat, instead of 20 minutes walk, I have taken more than 35 minutes to reach. Was it worth it!! Maybe you can tell me in the comments section.

After leaving the bus, I started walking in the residential area. I must admit that those who live in such an area near the canal are truly blessed. Not only can you enjoy the stunning everyday morning view, but you can also park your boat infront of your home and enjoy quiet time with swans and ducks... Another side of the canal was the forest area or park area where pet owners take their dogs for a long walk. Also, I saw many people running there even though it was a hot, sunny morning.

While walking on this street, the first thought that came into my mind was how to disturb this swan's family. You can curse me for my evil thoughts, but somehow I don't know why I like to disturb swans always when I see them on land. I am aware of the consequences of disturbing swans, but I feel like they should be in the water all the time...🤣🤣

I can be evil sometimes or maybe childish...Not only swans, I decided to chase other ducks as well, who were relaxing near the canal area with their families. Of course, my activities are not harmful, I just show them that I am coming near them, and they just go in the water again...😛

I really enjoyed walking along the canal area, but the rest of the walking area was nothing significant. Besides, the scorching heat of the sun was making me melt inside my clothes. So, after 20 minutes of walking, I was feeling like I had been walking for ages. I didn't enjoy the walk until I reached the destination. On my way, I took some photos of wild poppy flowers...

My first stop was Brasserie Tien, a nice cafe near the camping area. They also have lunch and dinner options, but you have to let them know beforehand. For walk-in customers, they offer drinks, some snacks, and cakes. Camping area, residential pods were near this cafe, and due to privacy issues, I didn't take any photos. There were kids who were playing with water and sand, and the camping area was too private to take photos, in my opinion. They also have boating and kayaking options...I am only going to share with you the canalside view...To be honest, it was too hot and bright to take photos, so I was focused on cooling myself down at that moment.

Next, I went to the beach area where people actually can swim, and it was again 20 minutes walk from this spot. Trust me, I was thinking of having a bike at that moment because I was actually very tired. I didn't take photos of the beach area, but took some photos of nearby areas.

Did I enjoy my day? I don't know, to be honest. There was nothing much to do for me at the beach since I was not there for swimming. I just sat there in the sun and was reading a book, that's all...I am not a beach activity lover, so there was nothing much to do. I had taken a taxi at the end to reach my place; I was not ready to walk at all in the hot, sunny weather.

Until next time...

Poor swan, I really don't think it would take kindly to you bothering it.

I read on the news that Europe is experiencing a heatwave called a "Heat Dome." I imagine it must be much more intense than usual.

I'm only now reading and commenting on this post because I finally managed to get my computer back online today. There was a double earthquake on this side of the world (similar to the one in Turkey in 2023), and it caused a terrible amount of destruction. We're lucky it didn't destroy our house, but it did unplug things, knock over shelves, and I had to do a lot of things before I could get my computer working again and get back online.

Anyway, I hope you get some rest, that the heat eases up a bit, and that we'll talk again sometime soon.

I read on the news that Europe is experiencing a heatwave called a "Heat Dome." I imagine it must be much more intense than usual.

It was, and even though I was born in a hot country, the heat level in Europe was different. It was dry and felt like my skin was burning. And the truth is, a small part of my body skin was burnt 3 days ago, and it was painful...

Are you located in Venezuela or near the country? I hope you and your family are safe. I am glad that there was not much damage, but still I can imagine how scary it was...Give me the update...

Be careful with sunburn; they can be annoying, and, at times, they have been complicated for me.

I still live in Venezuela, and it is true that the strong earthquake we suffered has turned our lives upside down; add to that massive flooding in the central plains of the country and a gigantic fire that has been burning for 36 hours in the mountainous area of the west of the country, and I can tell you then that we have had a week of horrible disasters.

I think it's a quote from Shakespeare that says that 'misfortunes, when they come, come all together', and here it seems that natural disasters are being taken very seriously.

I am quite well off, compared to several thousand of my compatriots; the damage I sustained at home isn't a big deal as far as I can see. I wasn't hurt too badly by the shock, and my house is still standing; all of this makes me breathe with relief.

What an amazing place! I was surprised to see so much greenery and flowers around.
Thanks so much for sharing!
I hope that this heatwave stops, it has brought many problems :(

This area has green space, and I also noticed that the canal side area was greener and more shaded than the beach area...I normally enjoy summer, but this week's scorching heat is making my days difficult...Last 2 days I couldn't even enjoy my morning coffee due to the heat...I hope you are doing well, Kate...

That's one lovely place where I'd LOVE setting my tent and waking up to the same view over and over again!

Oh yes, I saw many people took their tents and umbrellas to the beach and were enjoying the beach activities... I guess I was not prepared at all...

There's always a next time. Isn't it? 😉

It is...😃

Beautiful photos and a lovely travel story. The canal views and peaceful surroundings look amazing. Thanks for sharing your summer experience in the Netherlands.😮❣️🤝

The Netherlands has so many unique places to enjoy quite moment and to be with nature... There are a few spots around me which are good for reading a book while enjoying nature...I hope you are doing well...

We started experiencing those hot summer days in Antalya. Escaping to nature or a lakeside to relax seems like a good idea, but sometimes even going from one place to another feels like torture. In fact, this trip sometimes leads to regret. Even though we see new places and discover the beauties of nature, all you want to do in such hot weather is lie on the grass, gaze at the sky, and just relax. But you captured the poppy flowers perfectly in your frame. I smiled when you jokingly described the part about the ducks you chased away from the water.

You really understood my thoughts and what I wanted to express. After reading your comment, I felt like you spoke my words without me saying them... It's true sometimes, due to the weather, we can't enjoy and relax, and it feels too much...I am a nightmare for the ducks, I would say 😁

Beautiful destination , and here in my country summer also is on its peak, heat 40 to 46 degrre day time, my dear sister always stay happy , ♥️

Stay healthy, bro. It's too hot and humid, I heard, in your country... My friend was telling me how hot it is...

35 minutes walk... If it's not under the sun, then that's fine. The heat makes me not want to move right now. Good call on taking a taxi back in this weather

That's right, we walk a lot more than that when we travel, and actually, 35 minutes was nothing. But due to the heat, I was tired, dizzy, and dehydrated, and after crossing the canal, I barely saw a shaded area, and the walking street was an asphalt street, which made my walk more difficult...The beach area was also open in the sun, and no shaded area was around...I thought I would enjoy the beach area, but it was too much for me in the end... How's the weather at your place?

That was good that you enjoyed walking near the canal. Those wild flowers are so beautiful .

I was surprised to see those poppies and wild flowers, they were very cute... Thanks for stopping by...

Glad you got out. It is fun for us to see the canal in the Netherlands. I understand it being too hot to walk. I was just telling my friend that the doctor's office was asking me about my exercise and eating and I had to say I am not walking at all right now. It is too hot! I usually walk 2 miles a day. I park far away so I have to walk a mile. With the temperature being 109 degrees (42.77) today and this week. I am happy I am making it to work. Good for going out. The heat makes me tired too!

Hi Sara, how are you? To be honest, the canal side in the Netherlands seems convenient to have a good walk or run, but from my place it's far away as well. The main problem for me is the open space heat, which makes me dizzy, dehydrated, and I start having headaches...We are having 30-35 degrees every day now, so I am not walking much. Most in the evening or at night, I take 20 minutes walk around the area and come back... A 2-mile walk is very healthy to stay fit...

there is something very peaceful about these photos that makes them enjoyable to revisit again and again

Absolutely, the view was actually nice and I kinda enjoyed the canalside area... Thanks for stopping by...
