A Castle in Germany - Reichsburg Cochem

in Pinmapple10 months ago

We recently decided to embark on a spontaneous trip to the town of Cochem in Germany with the intention of visiting the Reichsburg Cochem Castle.

Finding a parking spot was a bit challenging so we ended up leaving the car in a slightly distant location. We then walked down about one and a half kilometers and proceeded to climb up the hill. The weather was hot so we made sure to bring our drinks along. Luckily there was a nice breeze and the temperature hovered around 23-24 degrees Celsius. The gentle wind felt amazing.

Reichsburg Cochem Castle welcomed us with its magnificent view from a hill standing 300 meters above the historic Moselle River. It appeared majestic when seen from a distance. After acquiring our tickets we entered the castle. We paid 31 euros for five people. It's safe tosay that this place qualifies as a real castle. Germany as we all know is a country that is home to the highest number of castles palaces and fortresses in the world. It's possible to find hundreds of these unique historical structures throughout Germany.

The castle was originally built to protect Cochem from invasions. It is said to have been used to inspect passing ships and collect taxes as well. There's even a legend that suggests the story of Rapunzel and her prince took place in this very castle. Throughout time the castle changed hands multiple times and was destroyed on several occasions but in the late 1800 it underwent restoration to its present state. Inside the castle we were impressed by the beautiful living areas and courtyards.

Afterward we decided to take a break and have a rest at a cafe. We thought it would be nice to enjoy a good cup of coffee in the warm weather. We ordered schnitzel and sausage with potatoes along with a lovely salad. The cakes were also delicious simply fantastic. It's really well thought out to have a cafe within the castle premises. This way people who complete the castle tour just like us can take a break here before the trip and relax while sipping their drinks enjoying the magnificent view. I must say savoring my coffee adorned with the unique atmosphere while overlooking the town of Cochem and the Moselle River was an indescribable feeling of joy and happiness.

We wanted to get a souvenir to create a beautiful memory. There were also some wonderful postcards that looked really nice. I got myself one as a refrigerator magnet. I'm continuing to expand my collection of castle souvenirs from Germany.

And that concludes our trip. The fantastic items and historical paintings inside the castle transport you to the Middle Ages allowing you to experience the lifestyle of that era firsthand. What impressed me the mst was the breathtaking balcony in the castle offering an endless view of the city the river and the valley.

The only downside was that everything went by so quickly.I would have loved to spend a bit more time there. Nonetheless it was a super experience overall and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

After the castle visit we had the opportunity to stroll around the town. We had a great time by the waterfront before wrapping up our trip.
