If a road trip does not truly begin til all surfaces are covered in dust, we didn't truly begin our trip til we drove down to Corinna on The Northern Explorer road, some 200 km of white dusty surface where scrub and mountains consume the view.

But I'm getting ahead of myself. First, we lunched at Arthur Beach, and found some indigenous rock art. The sun had warmed them so placing palms on them was like touching the warm skin of a person who carved them thousands of years ago. The indentations were covered in lichen but still visible if you were touching, an ancient braille. There were other rings too, 'tapped out with rocks by fuckwits' a local tells us. Some people, we think. The same people that leave cans and toilet paper to decorate the wilderness.

This beach can be driven on, but we are far too nervous. Instead we explore a few other coastal shanty towns before heading south along the Explorer. It's shaky, winding, and spectacular. Tassie always delivers.

We also pass the Balfour Track, a notorious track that is only for the brave and the stupid. We meet a guy from Perth a few hours later that did it, but his car was in much need of repair and as he did it in on his own. It took him six hours and a lot of drama, at times having to prop himself up with buckets and tubs and logs to right his Ute. Later we also hear the silica in the sand has a way of eating engines.
When we finally get within Corinna's sights, we are too rattled and dusty to go on. We stop by Savage River and make camp in the forest. It's like an enchanted fairyland.

The river is cold but refreshing. We sat on a log cooling our hot feet and had a few beers with a couple from Sydney before making tea. We are chuffed with the way our systems are working and I'm so happy with the kitchen set up.
In the morning we take the punt across the river and head to Zeehan for supplies before heading down to Trial Harbour. The punt costs $28 and takes five minutes. The kid who drives it has been doing it four years and was the silly content with his life in this out of way town. He points us to a bird who perches on a pole as we cross.
My apologies if I don't get back to you as soon as I would like. Reception in Tassie is patchy and sometimes we don't get it for days at a time. We are week into the trip now and I have many stories to share with you. I promise I'll get to all of you AND your blogs as soon as I get back so please do comment! I may disappear entirely but it's VERY hard to blog on my phone on the road!

Blogging from the wild ... the new adventure. First you have to keep the Defender on the road, then make sure you have food, then the battle for internet begins 😂 Really cool shots btw Gorgeous area. Fun to hear the joy of putting the new Defender mods to use.

Great pictures from the travel.
The place looks perfect but then it's the reception issues that's scary
Very fun and a little challenging trip, I really like to see the beauty of the beach you shared it

I want to go on a road trip! Maybe out west and then to my fatherland... That can't be more than... 10,000 miles‽
That indigenous rock art was cool! I went on a small adventure last week looking for some and my intuition told me we were very close. But we had to make it back to the pickup before sundown.
So amazing and beautiful view and the weather is also looking so pleasent. It is very nice vlogging with trip and make happy memories. I like this picture.
