Intro
I visited a few places in GEOPARK RIES. The first report is from Hüllenloch, on the crater rim near Harburg. The stay was very pleasant as the temperature that day was 30 degrees outside and a cool 20 degrees inside the cave.
Im GEOPARK RIES habe ich einige Plätze besucht. Der erste Bericht ist vom Hüllenloch, am Kraterrand bei Harburg. Der Aufenthalt war sehr angenehm, da die Temperaturen an diesem Tag bei 30 Grad im Freien und bei kühlen 20 Grad im Inneren der Höhle lagen.

How to get to the Hüllenloch: From Harburg to Huisheim on the St2384 road, shortly after Harburg in a left turn there is a signposted parking lot, from there a path leads over a small embankment in an easterly direction to the rocky slope. Then walk back 200 meters in the direction of Harburg to the stairs that lead to the entrance of the cave with 75 steps.
Die Anfahrt zum Hüllenloch : Von Harburg nach Huisheim auf der Straße St2384, kurz nach Harburg in einer Linkskurve ist ein ausgeschilderter Parkplatz, von dort führt ein Pfad über einen kleine Böschung in östlicher Richtung zum Felshang. Dann 200 Meter in Richtung Harburg zurücklaufen bis zur Treppe, die mit 75 Stufen zum Eingang der Höhle führt.

The entrance to the cave is quite narrow and only possible in a crouched, sloping position.
Der Eingang in die Höhle ist recht schmal und nur in gebückter schräger Haltung möglich.
This is what the entrance looks like from the inside, steps lead about 5 meters into the mountain.
So sieht der Eingang nach innen aus, über Stufen geht es etwa 5 Meter in den Berg hinein.
Shortly before the large chamber, it gets a little narrower and more sloping.
Kurz vor der großen Kammer wird es noch einmal etwas enger und schräger.

And then it gets lighter again, we reach the first room.
Und dann wird es wieder heller, wir erreichen den ersten Raum.
The walls are strewn with fossils and inclusions, this mountain is limestone that was formed in the lake after the meteorite impact 14 million years ago.
Die Wände sind übersät mit Versteinerungen und Einschlüssen, dieser Berg ist ja ein Kalkgestein das nach dem Meteoriteneinschlag vor 14 Millionen Jahren im entstandenen See entstanden ist.
Now I stand in the middle of the large chamber and look towards the mountain.
Nun stehe ich in der Mitte der großen Kammer und blicke in Richtung Berg.
And now in the other direction towards the window. An iron railing has been installed here, so visiting the cave is not dangerous.
Und nun in die andere Richtung Richtung Fenster. Hier wurde ein Eisengeländer angebracht, so dass der Besuch in der Höhle nicht gefährlich ist.
There are several smaller "sleeping alcoves" or are they pantries? This is where the imagination has to step in and I'll leave it to you to interpret.
Es gibt mehrere kleinere "Schlafnischen" oder sind es Vorratskammern? Hier muß die Phantasie eingreifen und ich überlasse es dir es zu deuten.
Next to the entrance to the Inner Cave there is another large covered room, to which a few steps lead up.
Neben dem Eingang in die Innere Höhle gibt es noch einen großen überdachten Raum, zu dem einige Stufen hinaufführen.
According to local legend, the sheep could have stood here to protect them from invading enemies.
Laut der Sage des Ortes könnten hier die Schafe gestanden haben um sie vor dem Zugriff der einfallenden Feinde zu sichern.
Of course, the local youth have a secret meeting place here and the legends continue.
Natürlich hat die Jugend des Ortes hier einen geheimen Treffpunkt und die Sagen gehen immer weiter.
A sheep could have enjoyed the view high above the Wörnitz valley, looking far into the Ries.
So könnte ein Schaf den Ausblick genossen haben, hoch über dem Tal der Wörnitz, weit ins Ries hinein blickend.
