Hello fellow travellers, January seems to be starting off perfectly for me. I have realised that I will have more free time and will therefore finally be able to take a few days off. I have decided to escape to San Candido, a place that is really important to my father because he spent part of his youth here as an Alpine soldier and therefore had to do his military service here. It's his birthday these days, so I wanted to take him to this place to give him a little present, which was very welcome for him. I am happy about it.
I took the opportunity to make this post to share some photos with you. I realised I got a bit mixed up because I mixed up the photos between those of Dobbiaco and San Candido. We stopped at a hotel closer to Dobbiaco, as I found a last minute offer.
As soon as we arrived in San Candido, we wasted no time and set off immediately to discover this town. San Candido is not a very large municipality, in fact it seems to have less than 4000 inhabitants, but it is very welcoming and the centre is really nice. You can go for a walk among the many small shops, and my father was looking for a bakery, but it has been many years since he came here so he has most likely either moved out of the centre or closed the business. Despite this, we enjoyed walking around and admiring the local scenery and discovering the beauty of San Candido.
Honestly, I expected to find more people around. It is probably a bit past Epiphany and there is less tourism, although the hotel owner told me that I was quite lucky to find a place anyway because he has never seen it so full, not even before the pandemic. So this is a good thing because there are some really beautiful places here that are well worth discovering, especially for ski enthusiasts.
There are enchanting places to visit, spectacular landscapes to admire, and plenty of outdoor activities to do, both in summer and winter. San Candido is an ideal destination for those who love nature and adventure, and is a perfect place to relax and enjoy some peace and quiet.
The only thing I didn't like here in San Candido is that people are a bit closed and reserved. I did not expect this kind of attitude, especially since I am used to travelling in Trentino, where people are more accommodating and friendly. However, I have noticed that young people have a very different approach to tourism compared to past generations, and this pleases me. I hope that things will change in the future and that people will become more open and welcoming.
Tomorrow we will try to visit Lake Braies, although I think it will be a challenge on a Sunday, but we will try anyway. We are here to have fun and see the best that this area has to offer and Lake Braies is definitely one of those places you can't miss.
Thank you for following me and for reading I wish you a good evening
