With the surprise still latent for having walked through a beautiful pine forest, as I told you in the previous publication, now our excursion continued to a place near there much more impressive, the Cracks of San Pedro. We went back to the Eusebia Hill and waited a while for the whole group to arrive.
Con la sorpresa aún latente por haber caminado entre un bellísimo bosque de pinos, como les conté en la publicación anterior, ahora nuestra excursión continuaba hacia un lugar cerca de allí mucho más impresionante, las Grietas de San Pedro. Volvimos a pasar por la Loma de Eusebia y esperamos un rato a que llegara todo el grupo.
There on the right hand side we took a detour downhill, the sky had become quite cloudy and we all hoped that it wouldn't rain because the park rangers warned us that going to the cracks with wet ground could be dangerous because it becomes very slippery.
Allí a mano derecha tomamos un desvío de bajada, el cielo se había nublado bastante y todos esperábamos que no lloviera ya que los guardaparques nos advirtieron que ir hasta las grietas con el terreno húmedo podría ser peligroso porque el suelo se torna muy resbaladizo.
As we descend further we plunge into a kind of forest, there are many ferns here.
Al bajar más nos sumergimos en una especie de bosque, hay muchos helechos por aquí.
And after a few minutes everything cleared and we saw before us an opening between grayish walls, here begin the San Pedro Cracks.
Y a los pocos minutos todo se despejó y vimos ante nosotros una abertura entre paredes grisáceas, aquí comienzan las Grietas de San Pedro.
We began to descend the narrow path carefully and in groups of 3-4 people so as not to get crowded.
Comenzamos a bajar por el angosto camino con cuidado y en grupos de 3-4 personas para no aglomerarnos.
According to my research, these formations have been little studied by geologists, let's say that there is no official information from any specialized entity about what exactly they are and how they arose.

Going through this area I felt like I was entering an unknown portal, to another dimension, the landscape is really impressive! I don't know exactly how high the walls are, but at some points I estimate that it could be about 10 meters.

The soil is rocky in some parts and in others, just like the walls, like clay, so if it rained it would have been a disaster, fortunately it didn't happen.

Another thing is how narrow the road gets at some points, you even have to take off your backpack and take your belly in to get through the walls hahaha.

There are also some sections with very steep descents where it's good to have someone to help just in case. My sister and I kept an eye on each other, but if we were separated at any point, another member of the group would lend a hand if you needed it.

I don't know how long the San Pedro Cracks are, we spent about 40 minutes going through them, in the last part there is quite dense vegetation that resembles a magical labyrinth.
No sé qué longitud tienen las Grietas de San Pedro, nosotros duramos unos 40 minutos atravesándolas, en la última parte aparece una vegetación bastante tupida que se asemeja a un mágico laberinto.
It was quite humid there and on the ground we came across a small puddle, that is the color we would have been if it had rained, all muddy.
Allí había bastante humedad y en el suelo nos topamos con un pequeño charco, de ese color habríamos quedado si hubiese llovido, todos embarrados.
One more steep descent and we were out of this incredible formation created by the erosion that the rainwater currents have caused to the ground.
Una abrupta bajada más y ya estábamos fuera de esta increíble formación creada por la erosión que las corrientes de agua de lluvia han ocasionado al suelo.
Immediately, spectacular green mountains appeared all around us.
Inmediatamente aparecieron unas espectaculares montañas verdes a nuestro alrededor.
There was a marked trail and along it we continued our route between ascents, flats and descents, we had to return to the town of San Pedro de Los Altos.
Había un sendero marcado y por allí continuaba nuestra ruta entre subidas, planos y bajadas, debíamos regresar al pueblo de San Pedro de Los Altos.
We were already close to some houses that could be seen below but we couldn't find where to descend. A companion of the group saw that the dogs that accompanied us during the route and that were from the village went down a ravine, so that must be the way hahaha. A lady from one of the houses saw us from afar and shouted to us that it was that way, to go down carefully, so we did it helping each other and holding on to some branches, it was a little dangerous but a lot of fun.
Ya estábamos cerca de unas casas que se veían abajo pero no encontrábamos por dónde descender. Un compañero vio que los perros que nos acompañaron durante la ruta y que eran del pueblo bajaron por un barranco, entonces ese debía ser el camino jajaja. Una señora de una de las casas nos vio de lejos y nos gritó que sí era por ahí, que bajáramos con cuidado, así lo hicimos ayudándonos unos con otros y agarrándonos de unas ramas, fue algo un poco peligroso pero muy divertido.

With the whole group already on site we moved on and made a stop at a peculiar house, they sold in their yard sweets, fruits, and there was a cute kitten, I went in to buy some candies.

From here we walked downhill for about 40 minutes between a cool climate and the landscape with crops until we reached the town square of San Pedro de Los Altos, where our bus was waiting for us to return home.
A partir de aquí caminamos unos 40 minutos en bajada entre un clima fresco y el paisaje con sembradíos hasta llegar a la plaza del pueblo de San Pedro de Los Altos, donde nos esperaba nuestro autobús para regresar a casa.
