The first part of E3 in the Czech Republic - Day 4

in Pinmapple2 years ago

Hello all travelers and readers,

on day number 4 at European long-distance route E3 in the western part of the Czech Republic. It was the first really mountain stage with several conquered peaks and descended valleys.

Zdravím všechny cestovatele i čtenáře,

na Evropská dálkové trase E3 v západní části České republiky. V dni číslo 4. Jednalo se o první skutečně horskou etapu s několika dobytými vrcholy a sestoupanými údolími.

Waking up in the morning slowly became a routine and I was able to enjoy the first colorful sunrise. Although the foreground was not exactly inspiring.

I když popředí nebylo zrovna inspirativní.

Through the first village of the day, Odeř, I began to climb slowly into the mountains. After a few tens of meters I heard a stream. That's why we headed towards the water. I saw a small stream and I decided to make tea and during the soaking tea. I managed to take pictures of a few waterfalls that were in the vicinity of the place where I was making tea.

I used the energy that my morning drink gave me to climb a little over 100 meters to an artificial lake called Jezero ( Lake ).

It was still uphill from Jezero to the Vlčinec saddle. In the saddle I found that I had reached altitude 900 meters. It was about 250 meters from the lake. Then I had to descend again into the valley in the village of Pstruží, where I almost lost my life on the main road, because a car rushed out of the village at high speed. This is where my knowledge from racing came in handy, as I was able to estimate the speed of the car and so at the last moment I jumped into the forest and a few seconds later a car passed by the place where I was standing a moment ago. I took a moment to vent about the situation in the lower station of the cable car to the top of Plešivec. After half an hour I went to the top, of course on foot.

From Plešivce, I once again went to places that have a relatively dark past. Because Uranim was found in the vicinity of the city of Jáchymov after the Second World War. And so there are the remains of uranium mines in the vicinity of the present-day villages of Mariánská and Nové Město. Previously, these were not villages, but quarters for political prisoners who worked in the mines.

The road from Jáchymov to Nové Město was and is used as a racing track for hillclimb races. I have personally raced on this road several times and achieved my first podiums in the 900cc specials class.

There used to be a castle from which only two towers have survived. From a fast-moving car, there was never time to see the monument properly, so I fixed it.

Jáchymov itself has always been a mining town. Its history dates back to the Middle Ages and the city was rich thanks to silver mining. During the second half of the 20th century, the city was neglected and only recently has it been reconstructed.

_M4A0191.jpg

From the town, through the saddle and the valley, I climbed again to the top called Hadí hora ( Sneak peak ), from where there was a beautiful view of the entire Jáchymov valley.

Although it would seem that I will be descending from Snake Mountain to the next city. The opposite was true and I had to climb approximately 80 meters to get to the highest town ( 1020 m ) in the Czech Republic. Previously, Boží dar was a mining town. Today, it is a tourist spot full of restaurants and hotels, which can be used in the winter for skiing and in the summer for wandering around the mountains.

From Boží dar you can climb to the highest peak of the Krušné hory - Klínovec (1244 m), which was also my route. The trail led to meadows that are used by skiers in the winter.

At the top there is an old mountain hut, which is in a rather dilapidated state. Lookout tower and TV transmitter. I skipped the lookout because there are several cable car upper stations in the area which spoil the view quite a bit.

Rozhledna a televizní vysílač.

For the first time on my trip, I had a view of the neighboring country of Germany. The photo shows the Fichtelberg hill, which is the most famous mountain in the German part of the Ore Mountains and at the same time the largest ski resort.

The difference in road quality between regions can be considerable. Here you can see the difference between the road in the Karlovy Vary Region and the Ústí nad Labem Region. From the road that the trail led to, I saw a peak that really caught my eye because it was different from all the other peaks in the area.

It was a peak called Meluzína (1097 m). It caught my attention from a distance because it was rocky, mostly rowans and blueberries grew here. Someone placed a statue of the figure of Melusina ( Soundy wind ) on the top. When I got quite cold from the wind, I understood where and why the hill got this name. There was no wind all day and the wind was blowing here. All that was left was to find a place to sleep. Although I quite lost, because all the surrounding forests were an impenetrable jungle, and for the first time in my life I thought that I would sleep on the way. When I reached the spring and in the vicinity of which I found an ideal place to spend the night. It occurred to me that someone had artificially created this place, as it was the only flat area on the steep slope, and the trees along the 10x10 meter platform were perfectly spaced for several people to sleep on the area.

I finished the fourth day after a distance of 44.7 km, which beat my previous record by about 2.7 km. During the day I stood on 4 peaks and covered a total elevation gain of 3568 meters. I felt great physically and was fully prepared for the following days.
