We celebrate Christmas in the tavern "Zig Zag". Strange customs of Poles that may surprise you.

During our vacation in Poland, I was very impressed by the color of the culture of this country. Although our countries are neighbors (Slovakia and Poland), there are still some significant differences. And it's interesting. For example, you can order a meat pizza, and you will spread it on top with cranberry jam. This is not a bad thing, it is also some experience and acquaintance with the culture of another country.

Poland pays great attention to the holidays. And there are a lot of holidays here. Poles are Catholics and they celebrate many religious holidays. On such holidays the country is totally closed. All shops, malls and a large number of restaurants will be closed. The locals got used to it. And tourists should prepare in advance. In this my country (Slovakia) is very similar to Poland. In Slovakia, a much larger population is also Catholic, and in Slovakia much attention is paid to religious holidays. So we're a little used to it.

We spent our vacation in Zakopane, Poland. If you haven't read my previous posts, be sure to read about this extraordinary city. We arrived in Zakopane for Christmas itself. To our surprise, on this day we found an open shop (by the way, an interesting fact. In Polish, "shop" will mean "Crypt"). This store was open 24 hours a day, despite the holidays. This is probably due to the fact that this store was located in a tourist area.

All restaurants were opened in Zakopane on Christmas Day. After a very good walk on Mount Gubałówka, we went down to the city center. There were a lot of people in the city center. All the people were walking under a beautiful snowfall and having fun. In the restaurants, all the seats were almost taken. But we were lucky and we found an interesting tavern "Zig Zag".

This restaurant is located on the main street Krupivka. The prices here are very attractive and there is a large selection of dishes. As we went inside, we saw a vacant table by the large fireplace. That's where we sat down. Firewood cracked in the open fireplace. And if there was not enough fire for the visitors, the visitor could put firewood himself. What surprised me the most was that there were no waiters here. I didn't like it very much because the restaurant was very big. There were two separate kitchens and a bar. The visitor had to run around the institution and collect orders. But in the yard Christmas, our mood is festive and we did not attach much importance to it.

Polish cuisine is delicious. At least for me. If you are in Poland, be sure to taste the dumplings (with different fillings: cheese, meat, potatoes, cabbage, etc.). Also, be sure to try "zhurek" (this is a delicious Polish soup with sausages, smoked meat and eggs). If you are a gourmet, you can also taste the soup of duck blood and dried fruit. I didn't take any chances. People say that back in the 19th century this soup fed boys who were denied by girls. In summer, sweet soups can be ordered in the restaurants. Sweet soups are made from raspberries, blueberries and various fruits and berries, and can also add pasta. I have never tasted this soup.

We are not big gourmets, so in the Zig Zag tavern we ordered sausage, pork skewers, salad, foil baked potatoes on the fire, and french fries. While our order was being prepared, we headed to the bar. The girl met us at the bar and advised us to try the Polish cherry liqueur "Soplica". Together with the liqueur, we ordered dark beer for my husband, wheat light beer for me and juice for my son. There were a lot of people in the restaurant but our order was prepared very quickly. Cheerful and happy we sat by the fireplace to celebrate Christmas.

Привіт! Мені сподобалвсь ваша розповідь і фотографії про Закопане. Польська кухня мені дуже подобається. Особливо журек, бігос, крупнік і копитка. Поляки знають смак у м'ясних виробах!
