Vietnam is popular with their craftsmanship , making metal into variety type of art . It is their part of culture . Century ago , if they have lands , buffalos and metals , they consider rich in their society . War happens in their country bring a lot of sad memory to them , but they say that war give them a lot of metal resources for them to make metal artwork.

Silver is one of their previous belonging, they inherited silver item from their great great grandfather as family treasure .

This is some silver that i can found in some local shop ,

Its not just a silver or metal artwork , but u can find quality and cheap marble in vietnam . Not specifically in Sa Pa , but some other place in vietnam . You even get cheap item is you good in bargain .

My first day mission is to find silver coin to be added in my collection. When France colonize Vietnam , Vietnam is one from the colonization ( Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam.) And mint their silver coin as their currency .

I meet local seller in vietnam , and she say that she has some silver coin in their family . But to reach their village , we need to rent a motorbike and ride to her village . That's mean i have to stay out of town for a day . Before we start our journey , we take lunch together .

image.png

My favorite lunch , Banh Canh is the best . :).

We go to market and buy some meat for her family . She say they will a fest at night , and maybe some of the nearest family will come and eat together. The meat is surprisingly cheap than from my place , and especially if the local buy from the market.

Our ride is on marron color , the cheapest and favorite transport you can found when you travel . Just inform the hotel you stay if you want to rent one , most of the hotel can help you to rent for you .

AND THE JOURNEY BEGIN .

After few hour drive , we arrive at destination. I think we being lucky because it was not raining , because the road is so terrible as u can imagine it is undeveloped road near China border.

This man is her husband , they serve me some food and it was so delicious. I think because im was tired drive . They are so friendly, even many of them cant speak english. What was funny , sometimes we talk with hand language.

image.png

One thing that surprise me since i was in town is most of the baby will be taken care of their small sister and brother because their parent go to do heavy work . I really cant imagine if my sister , i mean 3 years old sister taking care 5 month baby .

Guess what they are cooking ?

image.png

Yes , it was a mountain rat . OMG . It is my first time to eat , mountain rat and it was to smelly . It was like u eat a mud , but the taste is not bad . Well , they say it ll give you some extra heat at the night .

Another food to be cook for the night .

image.png

Its a food festival at the night. I meet some friend , we chat and share a lot of thing . I learn a lot of their culture , and respect them for keeping their culture until now.

One thing i realize , that they would not take their bath at the night because it was so cold and they have no water heater. They even boil water to wash their hand and their plate. Its not even mid-night and their already say its time to bed. This is my beautiful bed for to night.

Around 4 am , i can hear a beautiful sound from their traditional instrument. It is a very beautiful sound i ever heard. They say , it was a morning call for them to go prepare for the morning. I didnt manage to record the sound since i have no phone battery , and the electric is not available after midnight. I hope i can travel there again and record it.

In the morning , she show me some of their collection . And she bring some coins from her relative . I buy 3 of them , but i didnt bring enough money to give her . I promise her to give the money when we reach at the town.

Before we get back to town , i help them to build the house until afternoon. She say that , they want to build a proper homestay for traveler like me , so next time when i come there , we dont have to spend a lot for accommodation provide by the big hotel.

Im so happy because i make friend with them , i hope i can visit them soon and hopefully the road is getting better for my next visit.
