Hey guys! Today I have the last part of my travel reports about San Francisco for you. On the last day of my trip, I had gorgeous weather and took advantage of it by visiting two places that offer great, but completely different city views. While Alamo Square is still relatively central in downtown, it takes a while to reach the famous Twin Peaks. Just read on if you want to know how I experienced this exciting day in the metropolis on the American West Coast.
Hallo Leute! Heute habe ich den letzten Teil meiner Berichterstattung über San Francisco für euch. Am letzten Tag meiner Reise hatte traumhaftes Wetter und nutzte dieses, um zwei Orte zu besuchen, die tolle, jedoch völlig unterschiedliche Stadtansichten bieten. Während sich der Alamo Square noch relativ zentral in der Innenstadt befindet, dauert es schon etwas, bis man die berühmten Twin Peaks erreicht. Lest einfach weiter, wenn ihr wissen möchtet, wie ich diesen spannenden Tag in der Metropole an der amerikanischen Westküste erlebt habe.
As soon as I arrived at Alamo Square, I noticed the many colorful, stylish house facades. I also crossed a long, straight street that ends at the beautiful San Francisco City Hall. Alamo Square itself is a little park on top of a hill. However, it is not only known for the view of the city center. It is also home to the so-called Postcard Row - one of the most photographed residential streets in America. The row of houses that forms the foreground of the city view is also known as the Painted Ladies and gained great fame, especially by the TV series Full House. It must be really cozy to picnic with friends on Alamo Square on a sunny day. No wonder it was so crowded that day.
Gleich nach meiner Ankunft am Alamo Square fielen mir die vielen bunten, stilvollen Hausfassaden auf. Außerdem überquerte ich eine lange, gerade Straße, die am sehr sehenswerten Rathaus von San Francisco endet. Der Alamo Square selbst besteht aus einer großen Grünfläche auf einem Hügel. Er ist aber nicht nur für die Aussicht auf das Stadtzentrum bekannt. Hier befindet sich nämlich die sogenannte Postcard Row – eine der meistfotografierten Wohnstraßen Amerikas. Die Häuserreihe, die den Vordergrund für den Stadtblick bildet, wird auch als Painted Ladies bezeichnet und erlangte vor allem durch die TV-Serie Full House große Bekanntheit. Es muss wirklich gemütlich sein, an einem sonnigen Tag am Alamo Square mit Freunden zu picknicken. Kein Wunder, dass er an diesem Tag so gut besucht war.
From Alamo Square, I walked a few blocks northeast and after a short time, I reached the bus stop for the bus to Twin Peaks. The ride took about twenty minutes and already offered me a few interesting views of the city. The road was never really steep, which can't be said about the stairs that led me to the viewpoint. But of course I wasn't impressed by that and marched up the so-called Hidden Stairs in the midday sun, because I couldn't wait to see San Francisco from above.
Vom Alamo Square spazierte ich in ein paar Häuserblocks in Richtung Nordosten und erreichte schließlich die Haltestelle für den Bus nach Twin Peaks. Die Fahrt dauerte ungefähr zwanzig Minuten und bot mir schon ein paar interessante Ausblicke auf die Stadt. Wirklich steil war die Straße nie, was man von der Treppe, die mich zum Aussichtspunkt führte, nicht behaupten kann. Natürlich ließ ich mich davon aber nicht beeindrucken und marschierte die sogenannten Hidden Stairs in der Mittagssonne bergauf, denn ich konnte es kaum erwarten, San Francisco von oben zu sehen.
It didn't take me long to reach what turned out to be one of the best viewpoints I have ever visited. It has the funny name Christmas Tree Point and offers an amazing view of the entire San Francisco Bay. You can also see the Golden Gate Bridge from here. But what I found particularly fascinating was the view of the city center with the perfectly straight Market Street in the middle, that divides it into two halves that seem to have almost the same size. For more than an hour I enjoyed the magnificent views and let the past days full of beautiful memories pass in my mind again. It was simply the perfect end to my trip and at the same time an absolute highlight.
Es dauerte nicht lange, bis ich einen der besten Aussichtspunkte erreichte, die ich jemals besucht hatte. Dieser trägt den lustigen Namen Christmas Tree Point und bietet einen Blick auf die gesamte Bucht von San Francisco. Auch die Golden Gate Bridge kann man von hier aus erkennen. Besonders faszinierend fand ich aber den Blick auf das Stadtzentrum mit der schnurgeraden Market Street in der Mitte, die dieses in zwei scheinbar fast gleich große Hälften teilt. Über eine Stunde lang genoß ich die herrlichen Aussichten und ließ die vergangenen Tage voller schöner Erinnerungen gedanklich nochmals Revue passieren. Es war einfach der perfekte Abschluss meiner Reise und gleichzeitig ein absolutes Highlight.
For the way back to the city center, I decided to skip the bus and do it on foot. This was a good decision, because so I could stroll through a few interesting, upscale residential areas and admire the well-kept, artistically designed house facades. The last kilometers to my accommodation I covered with a streetcar running partly underground.
Für den Rückweg zum Stadtzentrum entschied ich mich, auf den Bus zu verzichten und diesen zu Fuß zurückzulegen. Dies war eine gute Entscheidung, denn so konnte ich noch durch ein paar interessante, gehobene Wohnviertel spazieren und die gepflegten, kunstvoll gestalteten Hausfassaden bewundern. Die letzten Kilometer zu meiner Unterkunft legte ich mit einer teilweise unterirdisch verlaufenden Straßenbahn zurück.
It's hard to believe how quickly my time in San Francisco has passed. There are so many places I would have still liked to visit. These include the huge Golden Gate Park, the famous prison island of Alcatraz or the centrally located Coit Tower. I can't wait to return someday and until then, I will always remember this unique city as one of the most beautiful in the world. Kaum zu glauben, wie schnell meine Zeit in San Francisco vergangen ist. Es hätte noch so viele Orte gegeben, die ich gerne besucht hätte. Dazu zählen der riesige Golden Gate Park, die berühmte Gefängnisinsel Alcatraz oder der zentral gelegene Coit Tower. Ich wünsche mir sehr, dass ich irgendwann zurückkommen kann und bis dahin wird mir diese einzigartige Stadt immer als eine der schönsten der Welt in Erinnerung bleiben.
