Hello everyone! Today I would like to tell you more about my city tour in San Francisco. To be more precise, I will talk about the area around the city's harbor and Embarceradero Street. I'll also tell you about my trip to Treasure Island, at the other end of the Bay Bridge, which was partly surprising for me. Just read on if you want to know how I liked these two areas of the city.
Hallo zusammen! Heute möchte ich euch weiter von meiner Stadtbesichtigung in San Francisco berichten. Genauer gesagt soll es diesmal um den Bereich um den Hafen der Stadt und die Embarceradero-Straße gehen. Außerdem berichte ich euch von meinem Ausflug nach Treasure Island, am anderen Ende der Bay Bridge, der für mich teilweise überraschend war. Lest einfach weiter, wenn ihr wissen wollt, wie mir diese beiden Bereiche der Stadt gefallen haben.
In the last post I already told you about the Golden Gate Bridge. But there is a second bridge that characterizes the cityscape of San Francisco. The Bay Bridge is a gigantic structure that consists of an eastern and a much more photogenic western part. It connects San Francisco with Oakland. At the western end of the bridge you can find Embarcadero Street. Near this main street there is a nice waterfront promenade and numerous architectural landmarks, such as the sculpture "Cupid's Span" in Rincon Park or the fountain "Aurora". Many fancy, modern skyscrapers, such as the gleaming white "Mira" with its wave-shaped facade, belong to the highlights as well.
Im letzten Beitrag habe ich euch bereits von der Golden Gate Bridge berichtet. Doch es gibt noch eine zweite Brücke, die das Stadtbild von San Francisco prägt. Die Bay Bridge ist ein gigantisches Bauwerk, das aus einem Ost- und einem wesentlich fotogeneren Westteil besteht. Sie verbindet San Francisco mit Oakland. Am westlichen Ende der Brücke findet man die Embarcadero Street. In der Nähe dieser Hauptstraße befinden sich eine gemütliche Ufer-Promenade und zahlreiche architektonische Sehenswürdigkeiten, wie die Skulptur "Cupid's Span" im Rincon Park oder der Springbrunnen "Aurora". Auch viele kunstvolle, moderne Wolkenkratzer, wie das strahlend weiße "Mira" mit seiner wellenförmigen Fassade, zählen zu den Highlights.
If you follow the road in a northeasterly direction, you will come to the Ferry Building, which is currently wrapped in scaffolding and thus does not look very attractive at the moment. The latter also applies to the nearby "Vaillancourt Fountatin", but that's just my personal opinion. However, a visit to the Ferry Building is worthwhile. Its interior is architecturally impressive and offers lots of stores and restaurants where you can enjoy even more unusual snacks. Just a few steps away is Pier 7 with its magnificent view of the city center with the Transamerica Pyramid in the middle. Here you can use the many park benches to enhance your photos and create leading lines.
Folgt man der Straße Richtung Nordosten, gelangt man zum Ferry Building, das gerade in ein Baugerüst eingepackt ist und somit zur Zeit optisch nicht sehr ansehnlich wirkt. Letzteres gilt auch für den nahegelegenen Springbrunnen "Vaillancourt Fountatin", aber das ist nur meine persönliche Meinung. Ein Besuch des Ferry Buildings loht sich aber trotzdem. Das innere des Gebäudes ist architektonisch beeindruckend und bietet jede Menge Shops und Restaurants, in denen man auch ausgefallenere Snacks genießen kann. Nur wenige Schritte entfernt befindet sich Pier 7 mit seiner grandiosen Aussicht auf das Stadtzentrum mit der Transamerica Pyramid in der Mitte. Hier kann man die vielen Parkbänke nutzen, um seine Fotos aufzuwerten und führende Linien zu erzeugen.
I visited the Embarcadero district a second time during the evening hours and started my walk with the fascinating view of the Bay Bridge from Harrison Street at sunset. I then walked towards the waterfront and enjoyed the blue hour atmosphere on the boardwalk. I found a great photo spot to capture the Ferry Building with the city center in the background on Pier 1. Unfortunately, I arrived a little too late, so the bright blue color of the sky was already as good as gone.
Ich besuchte den Embarcadero-Bereich noch ein zweites Mal in den Abendstunden und begann meinen Spaziergang mit dem faszinierenden Blick auf die Bay Bridge von der Harrison Street bei Sonnenuntergang. Im Anschluss spazierte ich in Richtung Ufer und genoß die Stimmung zur blauen Stunde an der Promenade. Einen tollen Fotospot, um das Ferry Building mit dem Stadtzentrum im Hintergrund abzulichten, fand ich auf Pier 1. Leider kam ich etwas zu spät, sodass die leuchtend blaue Farbe des Himmels bereits so gut wie verschwunden war.
Another very popular photo spot to capture the San Francisco skyline along with the Bay Bridge is located on Treasure Island, which can be reached either by ferry or much cheaper, by bus. There is not much to see on the island itself, but the views are definitely worth a visit. Unfortunately, I was going there on a chilly, damn windy day, so I had to stop my photo tour before sunset and flee to the warm hotel room. Never would I have expected that it can still be so cold in April in this city.
Ein anderer sehr beliebter Fotospot, um die Skyline von San Francisco zusammen mit der Bay Bridge einzufangen, befindet sich auf Treasure Island, das man entweder per Fähre oder wesentlich günstiger, per Bus erreichen kann. Viel zu sehen gibt es auf der Insel selbst nicht, die Ausblicke sind aber auf jeden Fall einen Besuch wert. Leider erwischte ich einen kühlen, verdammt windigen Tag, sodass ich meine Foto-Tour noch vor Sonnenuntergang abbrechen und ins warme Hotelzimmer flüchten musste. Niemals hätte ich erwartet, dass es im April noch so kalt sein kann in dieser Stadt.
If you are looking for peace and quiet, Treasure Island is the place to be. On the day of my visit, the island seemed lonely and deserted. At the viewpoint, which is located next to the ferry terminal, there is currently a huge construction site. No work was taking place at the time of my visit, but I imagined how beautiful it must be in the future to enjoy the view of Sand Francisco and the Bay Bridge, after the completion of the new waterfront on a warm summer evening. That's it for today with my report. In the next post I will show you more highlights of this impressive city.
Wer Ruhe sucht, ist auf Treasure Island übrigens genau richtig. Am Tag meines Besuchs wirkte die Insel einsam und verlassen. Am Aussichtspunkt, der sich neben der Fähren-Anlegestelle befindet, gibt es zur Zeit eine riesige Baustelle. Arbeiten fanden zur Zeit meines Besuchs keine statt, aber ich stellte mir vor, wie schön es in Zukunft sein muss, den Blick auf Sand Francisco und die Bay Bridge, nach der Fertigstellung der neuen Uferpromenade an einem warmen Abend im Sommer zu genießen.
