Cableway Towers on Pathfinder Dam - Wondrous Wyoming

in Pinmapple4 years ago

How do you work on a dam when the outflow is surrounded by deadly, dangerous cliffs?

Very carefully.

And with the right equipment.

In 1905, the options were somewhat limited. Presumably the original towers looked very similar to the 1920 replacements. No longer in use, these pieces have been left as is, as an historical exhibit about the past and the amazing things people accomplished before the modern technological age.

I think this is a beautiful portrait typifying the life in the Old West back when Wyoming was young (in a US sense, anyway.)

The sign below the upper tower. I had to hit it with several backlights to keep it readable. (I must have forgotten to change the camera setting for this one.)

It's a long way up there... Lower rungs removed to discourage would-be climbers, I presume.

This has all the makings of a Western horror film...

That pan was huge!!! I didn't have anything with me to put on it to give you scale, but it could definitely hold a few people if need be!

A couple more views before crossing back over the dam...

The lower tower with an osprey nest (most likely). I didn't see/hear any inhabitants, but it's a pretty good location for a bird of prey to nest - close to food and water! BTW, this is also in the middle of the spillway which has seen action several times since the turn of the century.

Photos taken by myself in June 2020 with my Nikon D7200.

Very cool images. Steps or no steps, I would stay down either way. I'm not very fond of heights. 😬

Yeah, me too.
