To Fish or Not to FIsh- DebotaKhum!

in Pinmapple3 years ago (edited)

Debotakhum, to me up to a certain point in time, was a place shrouded in mystery! Well, Let me explain what that word refers to first! DebotaKhum or Debota Khum/Shona Khum, roughly translates to A Mountain River of the Deities or something like that! It is a 600 feet long stream that flows through granite canyons! Quite the tourist attraction for amateur trekkers who just began finding themselves drawn to mountains!

As I was saying, debothakhum, the name in itself at first seemed mysterious! Situated in the heart of Bandarbans, Bangladesh, this absolutely beautiful place has an innate attracting nature towards those Bengalis who have never traveled here or seen a stream that has cut through the rocks! But once you do, that attraction dies down so quick, it's not even funny! Even after being such a remote place, it's somehow always overcrowded! Mostly because this place is accessible to those stupid people who always mix up the spirit of trekking and picnic all together! As one is both fun and a bit sacred while the other one is just fun!

My primary motivation behind traveling to this place was fishing! The short research i did said this stream was 20-30 meters deep! Too deep to be called a stream, not that deep to be called a river! But anyways, usually monsters roam in such canals and so i wanted to fish, but the local authorities did not allow it! They said, it was disrespectful towards the locals and very risky! I did not understand how a waterway could be sacred and what could be more disrespectful than defecating and urinating in it! The people who were with me and went for a swim in it, I'm sure they have pissed in it!

Jokes aside, i couldn't bring myself up to do something disrespecting as the minorities living in the mountains already suffer so much discrimination! I couldn't turn myself into another inconsiderate moron who throws their trash in the stream! While overlooking the fact that it's a mountain stream which is naturally a source of drinking water! So throwing trash in it is a moronic thing to do! That's why I said, the attraction to this place dies down so quickly! Because of these morons who violet that one rule of trekking and camping leave the place better than you have found it. So i'm sure, them not allowing me to fish must have had some solid reason behind it!

I live in Dhaka, and this place is in bandarban! Our tour plan had quite a few places in it, some places to which we were not even legally allowed to go! So I'll stick to Debotakhum for now and keep those illegal adventures (they are not, they are just mildly dangerous and our government has moronic safety policies) ones shelved for a near future!

The trekking began from a town up in the mountains, called Shilbandha Para! From there it's a 1.5-2 hours hike and an hour worth roaming around in the bamboo raft! A small waterfall that falls on the way is just an added bonus! The tour was back in the time when I didn't know HIVE existed! And I was never accustomed to social media that much! *So the images you see does not represent the full extent of how pretty debotakhum is. And for that I apologize. The authorities told us to strictly get out of the place before 5:30 in the evening! And so we did! Or did we ;) Well, as I already mentioned, we had other things planned;)

This is the mouth of the stream, from where our ride in unstable weird bamboo rafts began!

Those rafts are extremely unstable! Well, beggars can't be choosers and besides, we had life jackets!

Pardon my friends' manners! He just gets excited when he sees water:P

The huts you see are all in Shilbanda Para! A few hundred meters above the sea level
