Arsenic Lullaby- COMIC-CON AT HOME PREVIEW-ISH

in COMIC BOOKS fan/pro4 years ago (edited)

As I mentioned in an earlier blog, this year the largest Comic-Con in the U.S. will...be held online.

Which is so fucking heartbreaking I can't even get myself to read through their emails or press releases to understand WFT it even means. I filled out my online exhibitor portal...thing...I don't...I don't even know where that's going to be on their website or when.

Here's what I know....I know I'm going from this..

which I can do any day. Actually it is what I do every day. I do that every day, to prepare for days when I can do THIS

That live stream will be with me ...

We've booth been around awhile and know a thing or two. We're gonna talk techniques, about the industry, and who knows what else. You can ask questions if you like!

I am going to do my best to not have anything come out of my mouth that ruins our careers...but I make no guarantees . Join us won't you?

The second live stream will be...probably just me and on Saturday afternoon, when I won't have to worry about anyone becoming collateral damage if I go off on some insane tangent about Jeffery Epstein of who knows what else.

Aside from the con being online meaning I won't have people coming up to get my autograph in person and tell me I'm great...it's also one FUCKING HELL OF A LOSS IN REVENUE.

I'll have stuff up on the online store, I'm taking commissions ( email me at [email protected] for that) and the good people at World of Strange have teamed up with me to put out some t-shirts.

THESE...will be available closer to the beginning of Comic-Con at Home. which is technically July 23rd - July 26th. But you guys get to see them now!

Sort:

It sucks to lose out on these big events. It's looking like there will not be much happening for this year at least and it's really going to hit all sorts of creators and put future events in danger as venues go out of business.

I know it's not the solution, but things like Hive could be helping people out with a little extra income.

It's a barren landscape right now, for sure. and thanks for the Hive tip $$ !!!

I have been attending the San Diego Comic-Con for about two decades.
Right up until they decided to do applications on-line and via lottery (and me being homeless... just try to fill out a form, address, CC... all blank)

Anyway, what i really miss is artists alley.
Where i can go talk to all the upcoming artists and see their work.
All the indie publishers. A great place to spend money! Right into the artists' pocket.

These also were the least crowded areas of the floor.

I will miss that, and don't know if i will ever return.
These were my people

I would really like to hear your takes on Diamond, DC and Marvel.
For a while there, it was looking like comic book publishing was not going to be printed or delivered, and DC and Marvel didn't do anything to assuage my worst fears.

So, what are your thoughts on the future of this industry?

Phil Foglio embraced the new long ago.
Releasing his comic tri-weekly on a website, and later by print with pre-sales

What do you think?

I think I put in about 7-10 years before they went to the lottery system, which wasn't great for me as an exhibitor because many of my regular fans that I spent years acquiring couldn't get in.

My take on the industry and alla that...would take me a looooonnng time to type. But I'll cover it over the two live streams
ALLIVESTREAMTEMP2.jpg
( probably more so the second one) so come by and hangout on 'em!

Yeah, the first online convention I did was for Cardano some weeks back. My take was that you more or less get the same thing from the event speakers and such, but an online chat is a very poor substitute for meeting the random people you do at an in-person convention which is at least half of the experience.

Ah well. Here's hoping for a better next year...

"poor substitute" is well put
