RE: Hive L2 - return of the bidbots

in Curangellast year

Pharesim, I'm brainstorming here. Let me know what you think. You can be Herzogian if you want.

What if

There was this little bot, tracking these vote purchases. Then, this bot, after the vote purchase was done (usually on the first day after the post). It would comment on the post the information.

Example.

@transparencybot

Hello There. I'm transparency Bot. This post was upvoted by vote selling services. The Vote sellers are:

  • Votes4you
  • IhateMondays
  • AcidCoffee
  • Luthuaniaisnotacountry

The total amount of Purchased votes total: $3.57

People then

Can make their own mind about what to do with this information. Meaning, they can elect to downvote (if over rewarded, for example, no effort, etc) or, they can leave a comment saying "Hey dude.. whatacrap?". Also, curation teams would quickly know said post would not qualify to get curated.

Challenges

Maybe the vote buyer would get angry at the transparency bot and downvote it. So, a layer of protection would have to be made as well.

Some of us, I volunteer, would setup an autovote to be triggered if it gets downvoted into invisibility. Shields of a sort.

Whatever tokens the little bot makes, cuz it might accumulate, it would just burn to null.

What is the goal?

Sunlight is the best disinfectant.

I'm willing

To put 100 hive of my own towards a fund to have this developed, and commit as I said to help defend the bot.

What say ye? What would Herzog say?

Sort:

BRO

I will build it for half that price once @azircon gets me the list.

I have registered @soyouknow and @iboughtthis - I am ready and rarin'!

This is a brilliant solution Meno, your brainstorming is hella smart, I like it, that way it's Left to the community to decide

This is an AWESOME idea, brilliant @meno. I hope it happens and we can end this controversy, both the "ugh you bought those vote" and "ugh you're stopping me from buying votes". Just put it all out on the table, like blockchain is and is supposed to be.

Let the community decide if token based curation submission is shameful or practical. Cheating or investing.

Long time ago somebody said to me: Every single time you argue for restricting personal freedoms, you are most likely wrong.

I try to look at everything with that lens. Information frees people to make choice. As you pointed out. To some, they will feel "naked" so to speak, and simply stop buying self trophies. Others won't. Both are free to do as they please. But only one of them is likely to win "social points" per se.

Personally I think we need to do more to codify "social points" in a socially meaningful way. Currently the only thing that indicates any kind of social score is "Reputation" which is a false indication because it has zero to do with anybody's actual opinion of an account. Even if vote buying was massively unpopular, those who bought the votes would be rewarded with a higher reputation than those that didn't. People seem to disregard this as trivial, but I think they underestimate the power of positive social interaction and how crucial it is to everything we want to accomplish on Hive.

Didn't we have a transparency bot in the bid bot era? Or am I thinking about a bid bot that posted such comments?

The bots would leave a ridiculous comment under the post.

This post has been colonoscopified by @rectalbot - please join our discord bla bla bla

These days, the sales are "hidden" - nothing is truly hidden, but yeah.

Best comment of this post in fact

Curangel has a functionality where it tells people who were chosen for curation but participated in certain activities in the near past that this has disqualified them from curation. But that only reaches a few, and experience shows that only a small part of their users cares.

The problem has to be solved at the root, by hurting the service providers. Or warning them, as this worked decently here. There are quite a lot, I won't write a post for each, instead I hope the whole community realizes that it's important to highlight abusers and root them out before they become big and many get hurt.

I'm glad you made this post, this is kind of what I was referring to earlier, when I was talking to Acid. Shifting culture. Step 1 is awareness. I for one, had no clue this was happening.

I don't disagree per se, but, maybe a transparency bot would help too. Listen, I'm not married to the idea. I'm going to think it over for a while.

This is an interesting idea!

Wouldn't it just not service as advertisement for these bots? oO

Not really. Knowing there are people who, let's say, cheat on their wives, is not an endorsement for disloyalty.

This would be entrapment :)

Not that I am opposed to this, but this is a global network (still, perhaps)

Ethics is different in different places. Also how ethics takes precedence when livelihood is on the line is a gray area. I am wealthy and financially free today. However, I have seen poverty as a kid and a young adult. Also today I see poverty all over the place and ethics typically goes out of the window in many cases.

That is all that I am saying.

Could not but agree.

  • my 5 cents; as pharesim put it,

The problem has to be solved at the root, by hurting the service providers.

I agree with 1/2 of this, and me thinks that folks using these schemes/services is like a smoke on the fire - i.e. it indicates theres a root problem somewhere, the reason why they prefer to go this way instead of putting theur efforts into creating a decent content worth rewarding. fixing / shutting down one scheme just make them search for another weak spot to break the game.

I don't disagree bro, not even a little bit. I've been homeless, and I've lived a good life too. I know precisely the contrast you speak of. These days I have little money, but I have something a lot more valuable, peace.

However, my idea is to have more information available. Easy to find info. That's the goal. Then, people who are invested on Hive will make their call. I'm not one to argue for declawing people, the opposite is true.

Someone who is powerless and nice, is not nice, he/she has no other choice. Someone who is powerful and elects to be kind, is truly kind.

I want people to be kind, but not be powerless. Set the culture, help those who need help, convince those who are hurting themselves to stop or take action to make it stop.

I'm sure we align here.
