У ці дні війни для багатьох українців підвали й бомбосховища стали новим домом і прихистком. Пам'ятаю, як у перший день навали орків, прокинувшись о 5 ранку від потужного вибуху в 7 км від нашого приватного будинку, ми вагалися, чи лишатися вдома чи рушати на захід України, до рідних. Але відчуття привязаності до власного дому, який ми власноруч склали камінчик за камінчиком, і вдихнули у нього "душу", — нас не відпускали. І ми лишилися, бо інакше це було б як зрада.
During these war days, basements and bomb shelters became a new home and refuge for many Ukrainians. I remember on the first day of the Russian invasion, waking up at 5 am from a powerful explosion within a radius of 7 km from our private house, we hesitated whether to stay at home or move to Western Ukraine, to relatives. But the feeling of attachment to our own house, which we built stone by stone and breathed 'soul' into it - forced us to make the final decision. So, we have stayed.
Від початку війни ми повертаємося зі сховища щоранку до власного помешкання, аби поснідати в рідних стінах, а перед настанням сутінків повечеряти. Й у всі ці нестерпно довгі дні наші повернення у дім наче навідання близької тобі людини, мовляв, "як ти? ми тут, ми поруч, ми тебе не покинули, і до зустрічі завтра". Позаяк уже настільки вкорінилися в цю землю, у свій клаптик, що вирвати себе з корінням, коли довкола тебе вже все починає пускати соки і набухати бруньками — неможливо, це було б холоднокровно. Безумовно, є інстинкт самозбереження, але це щось вище, і ти не можеш вчинити інакше.
My parents are constantly in touch and ask me what I have decided, because I and my family are at the epicenter of risk, although where they are, it is very safe. But here is our home. That's why we stay. My parents accept our choice without tearful tantrums and emotional persuasions. Despite the fact that the situation near Kyiv is very aggravated.
Кілька перших днів щоранку перед нами поставала одна й та сама дилема: чекаємо чи їдемо, їдемо чи чекаємо. Батьки постійно на зв'язку і питають, як ми і що вирішили, бо перебуваємо в зоні ризику, хоча там де вони, набагато безпечніше. Але тут наш дім. Тому ми лишаємось. І те, що батьки, приймають наш вибір, викликає повагу, бо немає слізних істерик й емоційних вмовлянь. Ви навіть не уявляєте, як це важко емоційно й психологічно, наче обрубати кінці, якщо поїхати. Попри те, що у зоні нашого перебування справді загострена ситуація, постійний стрьом і, не побоюся сказати, страх, який ми вчимося опановувати самотужки.
'Wait for the morning' is a task that every Ukrainian sets for himself, regardless of where he or she is locally. Because dawn is a light and news from the front line. Because all nights are tense, explosions are heard. We're just waiting for dawn. Every night I pray: for myrself, for my family and relatives, for those who are with us in these terrible moments, for our defenders, for Ukraine.
"Дочекатися ранку" — це завдання, яке ставить перед собою кожен українець, не залежно від того, де він перебуває локально. Бо світанок — це світло, ясність думок, порція свіжих новин з лінії фронту. Бо всі ночі напружені, а від другої години — неспокійні, бо чути вибухи. І ти довгий час просто не можеш зайти в інтернет, бо через товсті бетонні перекриття нема зв'язку. І ти просто чекаєш настання світанку. І молишся: за себе, за рідних, близьких, за тих, хто з тобою в ці страшні миті поруч, за наших захисників, за Україну.
Every morning we hear sounds from the air, and even among the rough concrete walls of our shelter we can already distinguish helicopters, fighter jets, sounds from air defense. We are already going outside to see at the sky without fear, because the fear has faded somewhere these days. The psyche is hardened in a way we do not understand.
Зранку фіксуєш слухом звуки з повітря, і навіть серед грубих стін свого сховища вже розрізняєш вертушку, винищувач, звуки від ППО. І ти вже виходиш надвір, аби подивитися, чи це наші, чи ворог, без страху, бо він кудись за ці дні вивітрився. Психіка гартується не зрозумілим тобі чином. І коли над твоїм заміським будинком пролітають гулкі ґелікоптери ледь не над самим дахом, ти стоїш і дивишся в небо, замість того, щоб бігти у сховище.
Fear is real. But only we decide whether we accept him and step over him, or remain in his captivity. It seems that the first to do so is all those who are now desperately fighting for Ukraine in many of its cities and towns, remaining on their own land. By the end of! To Our Victory!
Страх — реальний. Але лише ми приймаємо рішення, чи переступаємо через нього, тим самим звільняючись від нього, чи лишаємося в його полоні. І, здається перше вчинили всі, хто зараз відчайдушно бореться за Україну в багатьох її містах і містечках, лишаючись на власній землі. До кінця! До нашої перемоги!
Україна зараз відстоює цінності всього цивілізовананого світу. Ми — Воїни Світла, справжній щит проти Зла!

Is handing out guns to untrained civilians so they can get killed by professional soldiers a western value?
Is press ganging unfit, untrained 50 year old fathers into the military in order to have great photos when Russian soldiers kill them a Western value.
If so the West has lost all morality.
When you have lost you should surrender to save lives not get your people killed for social media.
Ukrainians defend their right to freedom, to their own choice and life, to a sovereign state. Aren't these European values ?! We didn't invite Russia to our home on the tanks and in dirty boots.
If you justify a Russian terrorist for killing innocent civilians, children, women, destroying cities, then you are the same as the Russians.
Ukrainians are a free and indomitable nation. We are a monolith and will not give up!
