Weekend in Kyiv passed quietly. During these nights, I never woke up from air raid alarms, which is already wonderful.

Small businesses continue to open in Kyiv. Every now and then I hear that someone I know was able to enjoy their favorite coffee, take their clothes to be repaired, or even get a haircut or manicure. It's probably good that Kyiv is gradually beginning to adapt to military life. An application for Kyiv residents, Kyiv Digital, has created a map of a working business, where it is easy to find everything you need. It's hard to let go of the guilt that accompanies anyone who tries to get back into their routines. But supporting the economy is very important.

Today was a very hard day - I had two meetings and 4 English classes. My company wanted to hire a full-time English teacher to meet the training needs of employees. This teacher would be a good help to me, since there are 300 people in the company and half of them need to learn English. At the same time, I am still a translator, that is, in addition to classes, I still have the main workload. Now, when many companies are trying to enter the European market, knowing English is more important than ever. In addition, many employees emigrated abroad. Whether this is a temporary phenomenon or not, the need to know a foreign language is now felt more than ever. Therefore, there is such a demand.

Of course, group courses with a teacher are the most effective way to learn a language. You communicate with other people, at the same time you study the language comprehensively and at the same time receive feedback from a professional. It's both interesting and effective. But what if there is no such possibility now? Below is a list of platforms, services and apps that can help you start learning a language from scratch or build on existing skills. Many of them became free for Ukrainians for some time, so this opportunity is worth using:

  • Busuu
  • Drops
  • LingQ
  • Preply
  • Duolingo
  • Ling App
  • UTalk
  • Coursera
  • Mondly

Completely exhausted after today's working day, I turned on the news in the evening and watched several news stories about Irpyn (they say it has already been liberated), Mariupol, and other cities. I cried again (not a day goes by without it). Doctors are fighting for the life of a 13-year-old boy from Irpyn, and a 4-year-old child died. I am filled with hatred and inability to uderstand. I pray that this nightmare ends soon.

The day before yesterday they bombed an oil depot in Lviv, and yesterday - Lutsk. This undermines the energy security of the country, especially during the sowing period. My grandmother, who lives in the Mykolaiv region, said that due to the lack of rain, dry land and strong winds, the conditions for sowing are unfavorable. I think Ukraine will be able to somehow feed itself, but there may be problems with exports. Many countries are already saying that the lack of Ukrainian grain exports could provoke famine in some regions. The consequences of war are so diverse, and they affect even those who are not directly involved in such wars.

I'm so glad that planting has started and I hope that Ukraine is able to grow itself enough food. I can imagine just how devastating this invasion has been to Ukraine's economy. I really hope that you're safe... from a strategic standpoint, the people of Kyiv cannot stop fortifying until the invaders are pushed all the way back to their country. You never know if they might get lucky with reinforcements. Good luck!

The consequences are really grave, and nobody knows when it ends. But we need to stand strong and do what we can do, everyone at their levels. Thank you!

One of the problems caused by this invasion is that Ukraine is a major exporter of grain to North Africa and the Middle East. It may be possible to plant seeds and finally harvest but the logistics of exporting all the grain will be extremely challenging if the war continues and even if it doesn't. That will mean hunger and even more political unrest in those already restless regions - and more refugees heading for Europe.

This invasion was a diabolical act indeed.
