В розпал Другої світової, коли у війну проти німців вступили країни-союзники, німецька армія потерпала від авіанальотів на аеродроми в Голландії. Аби збити з пантелику ворога, німці почали активно будувати дерев'яні макети літаків, імітуючи масовість в німецькому авіафлоті. Подібні аеродроми почали будувати одночасно в різних місцях, вважаючи, що таким чином вдасться відволікти увагу від справжніх аеродромів.

In order to confuse the enemy, the Germans began to actively build wooden models of airplanes, imitating the massiveness of the German air fleet. Similar airfields began to be built simultaneously in different places, believing that in this way it would be possible to divert attention from the real airfields.
Кілька місяців тривала робота. Впродовж цього часу англійці, через свого агента в штабі німців слідкували за ситуацією. І ось коли аеродром наповнився дерев'яними літаками, англійський бомбардувальник безперешкодно залетів на цей аеродром і скинув одну єдину бомбу - точніше дерев'яний макет авіабомби. Після цього випадку, робота на всіх інші подібних проєктах німців була зупинена. Попри тонкий англійський гумор, на жаль, англійського агента німці викрили і стратили.
The work lasted several months. During this time, the British monitored the situation through their agent at the German headquarters. And when the airfield was filled with wooden airplanes, an English bomber flew unhindered to this airfield and dropped a single bomb - more precisely, a wooden model of an aerial bomb. After this incident, work on all other similar projects of the Germans was stopped. Despite the subtle English humor, unfortunately, the English agent was exposed and executed by the Germans.
