Before the end of World Breastfeeding Week, I want to tell you about my experience throughout this year, since last year I was just starting out on this wonderful journey.
As the main sentence says, breastfeeding is not always the best option for all mothers, in my case it was so with my first two daughters. Ammy, the eldest, was mixed breastfeeding, breast milk and formula and Amelie only took formula milk, as she was very young and no matter how hard I tried I didn't have the necessary support and knowledge to make it happen.

Quería hacer un video, pero no se pudo, ya que mis hijos se duermen tarde y por allí les tengo una sorpresa para los seguidores de mi blog.
Antes de que termine la Semana Mundial de la Lactancia Materna, quiero hablarles de mi experiencia durante todo este año, ya que el año pasado apenas me estaba iniciando en este maravilloso viaje.
Como lo dice la frase principal, la lactancia materna no es siempre la mejor opción para todas las madres, en mi caso fue así con mis dos primeras hijas. Ammy, la mayor, fue lactancia mixta, leche materna y fórmula y Amelie solo tomó leche de fórmula, ya que era muy pequeña y por más que intente no tuve el apoyo necesario y los conocimientos para lograrlo.
With Joaquín everything has been very different, I never gave up, I invested in a course 2 years ago on breastfeeding just for these dates and I came out convinced that this was the best option for my baby and that I was going to achieve it.
From the first moment I held him in my arms, while I was recovering from the caesarean section to move to the nursery, he was exclusively breastfed until he was 6 months old, after that we started breastfeeding plus complementary feeding.
It has been a beautiful journey, to be able to see him and caress him while he takes his teat, I would have liked to have this same experience with the girls. To have him stare into my eyes and with his tender hands caress my face while I feed him is something that cannot be described.
There are many myths about breastfeeding and many of them have already been named or are known to you, but here I show you one of them, that myth that says that our babies will not gain weight if we only give them breast milk LIE! Look at my chubby baby when he was 6 months old.
Con Joaquín ha sido todo muy diferente, nunca me di por vencida, invertí en un curso hace 2 años sobre la lactancia materna justo para estas fechas y salí convencida de que está era la mejor opción para mi bebé y que iba a lograrlo.
Desde el primer momento en que lo tuve en mis brazos, allí mientras me recuperaba de la cesárea para pasar al cuarto, el recibió lactancia materna exclusiva y hasta los 6 meses, luego de esto iniciamos la lactancia materna más alimentación complementaría.
Ha sido un viaje hermoso, poder verlo y acariciarlo mientras toma su tetita, hubiera querido tener esta misma experiencia con las niñas. Que él me mire fijamente a los ojos y con sus tiernas manos acaricie mi rostro mientras lo alimento es algo que no se puede describir.
Existen muchos mitos sobre la lactancia materna y muchos de ellos ya han sido nombrados o son conocidos por ustedes, pero aquí les muestro uno de ellos, ese mito que dice que nuestros bebés no ganaran peso si solo les damos leche materna ¡MENTIRAAAA! Miren a mi gordito cuando tenía 6 meses.
Today, Joaquín is 1 year and 1 month old, he eats lots of vegetables, lentils, rice, chicken, meat and fruits, but the one thing he never leaves aside is his breast milk, he's a milk addict as we call him, no matter where or how, he settles in as best he can and enjoys his milk.
It makes me laugh when he grabs my hand and puts it on my breast, so that I give him milk or when he tells me: tatatatatatata hahaha. Over time the feedings are less and I have found among so many benefits that breast milk is definitely a SAVING method, I have not had to spend a penny on formula milk.
We hope to continue breastfeeding Joaquín until he is 2 years old as recommended, although if we continue at this rate, I think we will reach Joaquín's 20th birthday and he will still be drinking breast milk hahaha, he loves his boob and with love and in his own time, he will decide to give it up. He already falls asleep without it and only has 1 or 2 feeds in the morning.
Hoy en día, Joaquín tiene 1 año y 1 mes, el come muchos vegetales, lenteja, arroz, pollo, carne y frutas, pero lo nunca deja a un la un lado, es su leche materna, el es un tetadicto como le decimos, no importa el lugar o el como, el se acomoda lo mejor que puede y disfruta su leche.
Me da mucha risa cuando me agarra la mano y me la pone sobre mi seno, para que le de leche o cuando me dice: tatatatata jajaja. Con el tiempo las tomas son menos y he comprobado entre tantos beneficios que definitivamente la leche materna es un método de AHORRO, no he tenido que gastar ni un centavo en leche de fórmula.
Esperamos seguir con l lactancia materna de Joaquín hasta sus 2 años de edad como recomienda, aunque que si seguimos a este ritmo, creo que llegamos a los 20 años de Joaquín y seguira tomando leche materna jajaja, el ama su teta y con amor y a su tiempo, el va a decidir dejarla. Ya se duerme sólo sin ella y solo tiene 1 o 2 tomas en la madrugada.
As a final word of advice to new mums: don't stress, look for information about breastfeeding, its benefits, postures, the perfect latch and if you need it, a breastfeeding counsellor. The best thing is that when it comes to breastfeeding your baby you can be calm and never give up. They will tell you, "give him formula", "he cries because he is not full", "your breasts are too small or too big", don't listen to those voices and follow your mother's heart.
Remember that breastmilk is the best choice for ALL babies!
Como palabras finales, consejos a las nuevas mamás: no se estresen, busquen información sobre la lactancia materna, sus beneficios, posturas, el agarre perfecto y si lo necesitan, una asesora de lactancia. Lo mejor es que a la hora de dar de lactar a tu bebé puedas estar tranquila y nunca te des por vencida. Te van a decir, "dale leche de formula", "llora es porque no se llena", "Tienes los senos pequeños o muy grandes", usted no escuche esas voces y siga su corazón de madre.
¡Recuerda que la leche materna es la mejor opción para TODOS los bebés!

Eli, amamantar es una de las experiencias más especiales de la maternidad. La conexión con el bebé es mágica. Sentir en tus pechos cuando tienen hambre es algo que no se vive más, es una sensación exclusiva de alimentarlos de ti en sus primeros años. A mi hija la amamanté por dos años y si hubiera tenido otro hijo, hubiera repetido la experiencia. Me alegra mucho que lo hayas logrado con el hermoso Joaquín. Un abrazo y besitos para los niños.
