LA NOTICIA QUE NUNCA QUISIERA ESCUCHAR / THE NEWS I WOULD NEVER WANT TO HEAR (ESP)(ENG)

in Motherhood2 years ago

I am more than sure that everyone who reads this blog will agree with me. As we get older, as our parents get older, there comes a time when (unconscious) fear takes over our understanding, because sooner or later the news will come that we never wanted to hear.

My father left this plane with his pants on. One day he told me that his chest was hurting and asked me if I could accompany him to the hospital, I could not believe my ears, he was asking me for help, he never did it, he must have really felt bad to recognize that he was weak, we went walking, I suggested him to look for a cab and he told me that he could go to the bus stop, it was six blocks, our economy forced us to go by the most accessible transportation.

We arrived at the hospital and the doctors told me that my father had a heart attack, I could not believe it, I felt an unbearable pain in my neck, reflecting on the courage he had to walk and not complain, they took my blood pressure and it was very high, so they gave me an intravenous.

With the passing of the days he recovers, but he must be operated as soon as possible, since his arteries were clogged, it is the result of a poor diet and a sedentary lifestyle, my mother who does not give up in the face of adversity, went to every private and public institution, asking for help, finally his plea was heard and the government approved the operation, but it would be performed in another state of the country, the logistics was a problem.

But as God always has his hand, by chance some distant cousins of my dad lived near the clinic where the operation would be performed, it was a total success and they removed veins from his leg to replace the clogged arteries, they showed them to me as they were, in my opinion it was like seeing the nougat (a peanut-based candy) inside the arteries obstructing the passage.

Many years went by when I began to see him tired and sad, he liked to go out a lot, but his slow pace prevented him from doing so, he would tell me to go with him to buy a tomato for downtown and I would give him a sermon telling him that we were going to spend more on the ticket that he was going to buy and it was something that was in the bodega on the corner.

He was a proud man and I was arrogant, I did not realize that what I wanted was to walk, but he walked with a cane and the bus drivers in my country are not patient and walk very fast, so you practically have to jump at the stops to get on and off.

One day my sister died suddenly, she had a kidney operation, it went well but they did not put her in the monitoring room and her blood pressure went up and she died of heart attack. Another typical case of medical negligence, this never expected news plunged my parents into depression, they never got over it, every day they mourn her.

One midday, I took my mother and my father to the ambulatory to get some vitamins, he climbed the endless stairs with his slow pace, they gave him the medicine and after a while he told me he felt dizzy, I grabbed him and he fainted in my arms twisting his eyes, he left me that weight of conscience, his last breath in my memory.

My mother aged about 20 years suddenly with both family tragedies, she is diabetic and because of her continuous stress, she lost her sight. Today I try to spend time with her, even though we live a little far apart, she doesn't want to move in with me.

I do the best I can, communicated her with distant family and friends, bought her the cookie she likes, we talk a lot, listen to old music from her youth, sing Karaoke from time to time, but she doesn't stop crying, it's been four years since my sister left and three years since my father left.

At night I receive sudden messages that make my heart skip a beat before reading them, because internally I am afraid of hearing the news that I would never want to hear. Undoubtedly, a mother is a unique and irreplaceable being, losing her is a pain that will always be with us, God grant her life and health.
