Hello my dear community today I will talk about a topic that causes much damage, and unfortunately many parents come to do with their children without realizing the damage that could be caused in their self-esteem, and it is the comparisons.

Comparisons are a great resource that we can use with our children when it comes to teaching them about everyday things and others that cannot be perceived at first glance, but when it comes to comparing one child with another, unfortunately it would not be favorable for either of them.

When a parent compares his child with another, unfortunately he is leaving out important things that will greatly affect his child, such as, for example, his tastes and goals. We know that as parents we have the responsibility to direct our children so that they can make wise decisions in their lives, but not to decide what they will do in their lives.

This type of comparison is really the disguise of manipulation. When we compare a child with another one you are simply telling him that he should be like him, and this could cause in the child resentment, disillusionment and many feelings that can affect his personality in the future, this could divide the relationships between the compared children and I will explain it to you by showing you what happened in my case.

When I was about 12 years old my aunts used to put me as an example for their children saying, because you do not look like your cousin, he has no subjects left in high school, these words for many do not seem to have anything wrong, but they can cause it, my aunt did it because as he was a good student she wanted her children to be too, but this had the opposite effect because for them this was a humiliation, we must understand that each child learns at a different pace than others of the same age, even being twins this is so.

And these words also affected me in different ways, as I demanded that I continue to do well in all my subjects and at some point think not to disappoint the people who had that concept of me, I really saw those comments as burdens and my cousins wanted to get away from me making me more and more lonely. We know that educating and disciplining is not something easy, but we always encourage our children to set goals, but not to compare themselves with others, but over time they can compare themselves with themselves and reflect on what they have improved as well as reflect on what they still need to continue improving.
