[ENG /ESP] The Magi and ¿Who is Artaban?

It is not the size of the gift that matters, but the size of the heart that gives it.

Today, January 6th, the Catholic Church celebrates the arrival of The Three Wise Men which is known as The Feast of the Epiphany, this expression is defined in the Dictionary as: Obvious manifestation of a divinity among human beings. The story goes that on this day three wise men from the East, who were dedicated to the study of the stars, set out on a journey to Bethlehem, the place where the Birth of Jesus took place. They said that a star had indicated to them that the King of the Jews had been born and they went to worship him. On their journey, instead of arriving at the place where Jesus was born, they arrived at the palace of the wicked Herod, who with other intentions told them: "When you find him, let me know, so that I too may go and worship him", but the wise men, knowing his wickedness, left and followed the star that went before them, until it finally stopped over the true place where the Child was with Mary, his mother and Joseph and kneeling down they worshiped him. This is the moment when they opened their coffers and offered Him frankincense, gold and myrrh; they were warned in their dreams that they should not return to where Herod was, so they took another way to return to their land.

Now, to worship the Child only Melchior, Gaspar and Baltazar arrived, however, when the trip was planned there were not three, but four, that was Artaban who could never get to worship the Messiah because he got lost on the way, he was carrying a lot of precious stones, including Ruby, Jade and Diamond; all to offer them to the Messiah, you do not know him, today I introduce him to you.

Artaban was the fourth wise man who prepared everything to go to the place where the Messiah was born to worship him and give him his offerings, they agreed to meet at a place to leave; But when he was on his way to the agreed place, he met an old man who was extremely sick, tired, without money, who deserved his care and without hesitation he offered him his help, he supported him and once he was recovered, he set out again on his way to Bethlehem; but when he arrived he got a big surprise, the Messiah had already been born and his parents had fled with him to Egypt to save him from the slaughter of the innocents that Herod had ordered. But Artaban did not give up and continued the search to see if he could get to where the child was to offer him the Precious Stones, with the bad luck that on his way he met the Roman army and trying to stop them from fulfilling their task, they arrested him and sentenced him to thirty years in prison in the prisons of the Roman Empire.

Once he served his sentence and was released, Artaban continued to provide help to all who were in need in his path, without stopping to think that the shipment of precious stones was diminishing more and more, he only thought of doing good. Thus 33 years passed, and tired by the life he had had to live, he arrived at Mount Golgotha and learned that there they would crucify a man who was called the Messiah, who had been sent by God to save the world. He entered the crowd of people and saw a young woman being taken to the square to be sold as a slave to pay off a debt owed by her father, and Artaban, seeing such injustice, did not hesitate for a second to give the last ruby left in his purse in exchange for the woman's freedom.

Disconsolate and extremely sad, he lay down next to a house without imagining that the earth would shake very hard and he would be hit by a rock leaving him dying; it is then when in the agony of death he raised his hands to heaven and apologized for not having fulfilled the mission of worshiping the Messiah, it is there, when before expiring, he heard a voice that told him: Everything you did for others you have done for me, that is why today you will be with me in the kingdom of heaven with this expression, Jesus let the fourth Magician King see, that although he never got to where he was to deliver the offerings and worship him, he would be with him in heaven, because if he did the work that Jesus wants us all to do, to help everyone in need.

It is a beautiful story that I want to share with everyone who takes the time to read, because it reveals a beautiful and significant learning of life, so I invite you to use it when it comes to instill in our little ones values such as Goodness Humility and Generosity we can make use of these beautiful stories to exemplify how God wants us to serve Him. If you have read this far, please leave me your comments and I will gladly respond to them.
