Derelict Toilets of the North – Volume I

in The LooLoo3 years ago

Spurred on by @brittandjosie, some of my more, how can I put it.., slightly soiled images now have a home in the form of the brand new community 'LooLoo'.

Don't be fooled by the cover image. That is the Gents at Cloud 23 in Manchester, a swanky restaurant 23 floors up that may as well be derelict now due to the lack of recent patrons.

1_IMG_2369_1.jpg

I can assure you the images you are about to see are only going to get worse. I struggled to find enough for even 'Volume I', as bogs are not something I tend to photograph often so had to dig through my archives to find these gems.

Besides the first image, I left the other's all unfiltered as those filters tend to highlight the colours, some of which may look 'a little undesirable'.

The Preston Motor Village was accommodating on our visit during the summer of 2020. A fully intact working toilet with complete novice instructions awaited.

IMG_2816.JPG

Neither I nor @dizzydiscovery were remotely bursting during our visit and so it sadly got neglected.

Dalton Mills in Keighley was a massive explore. On the top floor, I spotted this forlorn-looking specimen which I dare not further inspect due to seriously rotting floorboards.

IMG_3027.JPG

While it is true this one has been stripped of both seat and lid, the contents could well have been a delightful surprise on closer inspection.

Previously unpublished, the Gents at Carblox Refractory Plant in Sheffield were simply made up of several long rectangular ceramic piss pots for ease of use.

IMG_5661.JPG

Potential voyeurs could always wave their genitals toward the now broken window after completing their business.

Much thought and consideration went into the design of the Albion Day Nursery School toilets. People do like their privacy and those dividers do a great job.

IMG_5644.JPG

The toilets sadly were a little smashed and cracked at best.

The fabled time-capsule, ‘The Axe House’ has an equally famous toilet. Take care to swoon over the elegant design, with both lid and seat still attached.

IMG_3362.JPG

An attempt to use this historic landmark would, unfortunately, guarantee death as those white areas are genuine gaps of fresh air with a 25-foot drop to boot.

Werneth Park Music Rooms boats a classic black lid toilet that I dare not approach again due to a possibly uncompromising floor of dubious quality.

IMG_4886.JPG

That radiator contains real rust and I am quite convinced is not the recipient of an unfortunate accident from the last toilet visitor who failed to aim correctly.

Callis Mill near Hebden Bridge is now being renovated. What has become of this once iconic toilet I wonder?

IMG_7996.JPG

You can almost see the contents, but not quite. I am daring but when it comes to getting close up and personal to these ceramic masterpieces, it can become a little too much.

RedLine.png

Getting to see these gems yourself will require a little dedication on tracking them down. With you, the reader possibly being a community member of 'LooLoo' I feel quite convinced you are a toilet guru and would loathe missing and experiencing any of these in all their glorious ceramics.

There will be more to come in Volume II.., maybe…, keep tuned.

Sort:

Great selection of Loos up north, I always know the northerners had great taste 😂

I was wondering about The Axe House, whether that was part of the decor on the ground or really a hole, glad you confirmed. If one did dare to use it, I'd be careful not to walk underneath in case they missed... I hear it happens sometimes.

And I see someone had to leave in a bit of a rush at The Preston Motor Village

Look forward to Volume II and more

I will be sure to take snaps of fantastic looking bogs going forward (when we can go out again that is), and purposely omit them from 'Tales of the Urban Explorer', saving them for LooLoo's.

Convincing @grindle to grab these images may be a little tougher, I feel he has some kind of anti-bog fetish if anything! !WINE.

Hell ya! Loo Loo yesssss!!

That JOHN ( that’s what a men’s toilet is called right? ) I would so go to the Gents at Cloud 23 in Manchester, I love the swanky restaurant 23 floors up for a high poop drop

The groosse pics ..... well 🤢
I remember you did a blog about this place! I will for sure wait till I am home to go..... but that is a ladies thing I guess

Great share

Sorry I have to go ....... 🚽

These are all from past 'Tales of the Urban Explorer' series, though I usually make light work of the John's (a very American term, not used in the UK).

We tend to use the word 'Bog', not in the sense of a swamp. 'Loo' is less direct and should be used with people you don't know very well. !WINE

I knew I saw them in an explorer blog before. And now I know why @livinguk Taiwan used loo 😉

Potential voyeurs could always wave their genitals toward the now broken window after completing their business.

Oh my😂😂 Good to know that it was just rust on the radiator🙈

LOL, I had to make sure everyone knew that!... !WINE

How fantastic! I'm a huge fan of urban decay, but I'd never take shots of the loo, as, you know, decayed loos are a whole different thing. Glad you did though!

LOL, don't expect many more.., I haven't exactly got a large repo in my archives!

And I just knew that was your dirty secret...

...and I was about to start my own Derelict Toilets community.., I guess this one will have to do.. sniff..

That reminds me it's almost dinner time ...

external-content.duckduckgo.jpg

Ugh.., just for the record.., this was a nice.. decent post.. until now.

I hate those troughs. I need my privacy even when it is just #1.

Many gents troughs here don't have those dividers, can't say I am a fan of the open world urinals much either. Some of those other guys tend to 'take a look'. This it real toilet talk, @livinguktaiwan is going to be most impressed.

I asked hubby before about peeping neighbours, he gave me this odd look and said who would do that, you just look ahead?! I was never quite convinced about this answer as I'm sure there are bound to be some who are a bit curious to say the least. Good to hear alternative views, now I know either he's lying or he's been peeped at before but didn't know it 😏

You get them everywhere, even in the Houses of Parliament. My colleague came out of the bogs and said to me, 'see him.. over there'.., pointing to a distinguished looking middle-aged bloke... 'he had a look'. I worked there during the summer of 2007.

Thanks for warning before you began decided to start a massive upload of these toilets. Once I saw the first image I didn't know what followed lol.
It's a massive pile of reek and rot. Writing things ontop toilet walls was a thing back when I was little lol so this really just brought back memories of all those toilets. Whew this shots takes courage I can tell you

Lucky for you (and everyone else), pictures and images of bogs are something I have a short supply of!

Hahaha well irrespective, I think its exciting looking at them.

NO WAY! I have a thing where I take pictures of most bathrooms that look fancy that I go in so I know its the opposite of this but still. Syncronicity. Sick Finds!

No more, not for a while anyway. The community needed to be 'christened', that's all!

Now you have gone and started something @slobberchops !!!

Such gems must be noticed and given due recognition I feel, got anything yourself for LooLoo? !WINE

I have, I shall delve through the archives and share the love of the bog!
