champignon in the grass

in Fungi Lovers2 years ago (edited)

so i went out to see how the new small champignons i had found in the park a couple of days ago were coming along. they were off the beaten path so i did not expect anybody else had picked them. alas when i arrived i discovered that the grass had been cut. it was not high so it was not necessary nonetheless many of the mushrooms were damaged.

but there were still some intact. this pair looked better after brushing off the cut grass.

i am not positive which species these are but i am sure they are edible. they look scrumptious. i know the gardeners here do not use chemicals on the lawn so they are safe to eat.

but i had hoped to find more in good condition.

they are not the most colorful of mushrooms but are certainly among the most delicious but this one is surely infested with bugs. anyway, being so photogenic, it is a feast for the eyes.

in another spot under an old birch tree in the park i found a cluster of magnificent
champignons i believe to be Agaricus sylvicola what we appropriately call here in norway snøballsjampignon or snowball champignon.

these beauties are a real find and some look young enough to be free of bugs

and there are a dozen or so of them including the older ones
so before i cut any i am optimistically looking forward to a mouth watering treat

but alas it was not to be

even though they appeared so fresh at first, they are too far gone

a disappointment yes but next time will be better, definitely.

still i am most satisfied with finding them at all and getting these photos.
