official news

October -- mushroom season is on its peak in the northern hemisphere, forests are full of shrooms, a lot of cool stuff to post about. Its a pleasure for me to note our community is growing (again!), new members arrive and bring in excellent stories. Up to date we are 377 subscribers, 82 active posters, and 372 weekly interactions.

Due to the season or other reasons, a lot of great posts appeared in coppunity, I do not have enough time, I am lagging behind in reviewing the best of them! Probably I will split the October reviews into two parts. But I really wanted to mention here a few most awesome posters: @nicanor-mosquera, @tinta-tertuang, @alovely, @whisky2, @borjan and especially @marianomariano, who deliver visual pleasures of great quality and a highly educational reading almost on a daily (!) basis.

I even started thinking about creating a 'monthly poster' contest with blackjack and bitches SBI prizes. What do you think of this idea, mates? (I just have strong suspicions that @sketch.and.jam or @marianomariano will inevitably steal the prises month by month, and soon we be out of new winners, which is not competitive and not intresting at all
:)

Other great news - community account is upgraded to 1350 HP. I am waving with my hands and send good karma wishes to @bambuka, who found possible to delegate 144 Hive to strengthen account's voting capability. (Other delegators are @qwerrie, @ocd-witness and @portal-xenna - thank you one more time!).

As you know from previous posts, FL is part of @OCD community incubation program -- you may wanna check the link above for full details. In brief, it means @OCD encourages hiveans to post to dedicated communities by providing a nice upvotes for great posts.

Each post is getting 100% upvote from the group, and it is in your hands to make it better. You are welcome to delegate HP too, if you feel you have some extra and want to benefit for community. Feel free to follow and upvote FL account posts, all rewards proceed to account HP.

We just kindly ask: go for quality, not for quantity.
No need to spam over the place with low quality posts, that will get you no readers; its pointless and waste of your lifetime.

mushroom tea ʘ @ruta-rudens shared with us two Siberian recipes of a useful tea prepared from Chaga (birch mushroom) - if you are a herbal tea lover and into the natural medicine, check her post to educate yourself. At least you will be in the know, and it will help you to fill in the crosswords!

shiitake - vegan pleasures ʘ @tinta-tertuang bring in very cool visuals of Shiitake shrooms and Orange Rot, from Indonesian aceh forest. Her second post deliver a beautiful 'strawberry fields' of mushrooms.

spar1.jpg

Sparassis ʘ @nicanor-mosquera had an encounter with very cool and tasty unusual edible fungus, which you should be aware of -- it occures in Europe, and may be a great find and awesome contibution for your kitchen. Dont let him escape his fate!

bol.jpg

ʘ @bambuka pleased us many times this month. He brought in nice photos of edible Leccinus, and unedible Amanita in his 'three heroes' post. Check his Coral Hedgehog post about a nice experience of finding a rare mushroom from The Red Book (he said he have met it for the second time in life). This fungus has medicinal qualities; to keep all the good stuff it has, one have to use a different approach than simply put it onto a pan or in a pot - alcohol is needed to extract them into a tincture. Check the post and educate yourself.

Bachelor breakfast is the last of @bambuka posts I review today. Chanterelles are the mushrooms we are all, more or less, well acquainted with. But do you know they are a fairly strong medicinal raw material? Chanterelles contain a rare natural substance ergosterol, which affects the structure of the liver, increases the resistance of its cells to toxins, stimulates the production of enzymes and heals the organ. In addition, its substances are known to fight cancer. Go directly to the post for details, and enjoy the beautiful standstills.

sunny monday ʘ @akukamaruzzaman presented us low-key photography of two wild mushrooms from Aseh, Indonesia. Despite it rarely rained in the location for the last two months, he managed to get some tropheys to share with us!

linwood.jpg

Linwood Warren ʘ @dannewton, UK-based photograph, naturalist and Renaissance man a man of divercified intrests, presented a nice photo tropheys from his walk across the local nature reserve Linwood Warren. Look what you can find under the oaks and birches.

adalg.jpg

autumn biwak ʘ @adalger, Germany-based scientist and active Hivean, the founder of #AmazingNature contest and community, shared a lovely story of his annual 'autumn biwak' with friends - in the forest, alone with nature, skies and the soil... what did he find there? Correct answer is: mushrooms! Well, I am more than sure besides that he found a lot of other things. I am glad he created this nice shots and shared them with us.

who is the boss? ʘ the last one for today is from @ewkaw, moderator and maintainer of the #FungiFriday challenge. No, this post wasn't supported by #OCD curation, we do not nominate usually our own posts for curation, but is it fair? We bring here a beautiful stuff too! And I wanted to include her beautiful 'plush' shroom fellow here just for this reason: because! it is! nice!

Ok, enjoy the bouquiet - and next time. Happy hunting!

#FungiFriday!

I hope many of you will join, as there are only 2 simple rules:

  • when Friday comes, share your fungi with us! post your own, original photo/drawing/art/food/anything-at-all of any type of fungi (yes, stolen images will be checked and reported!)
  • add #fungifriday (not necessarily must be your 1st tag). that's all!

Excellent news, from what I see this is not only a great year as far as mushrooms are concerned in my area, but also in many other places in the world. There is a lot of quality in the publications mentioned and in those that are yet to come. It is not surprising that the community continues to grow, a great job is being done and it shows. Thanks for the mention, very grateful for that.

you bring in nice stuff, too - it is you to thank, as well!

Wait a minute... you never mentioned blackjack and bitches.. stuff :p

Plush shroom thanks you for the mention :)

@tipu curate

I just slowly re-watching the 1st Futurama season, and these dirty desires (safely buried in the bottom layers of the psyche) suddenly burst out, I let it slip .. it's not me! it is Bender! this is it! it just goes itself!
