First Oysters of the Year

in Fungi Lovers3 years ago

Today I walked by a tree covered with snow and moss. Then a pile of snow suddenly felt off and surprisingly revealed these beautiful early oyster mushrooms. They are edible, I will forage them later as they grow larger.

afraid this will never gonna happen, as you discovered the autumn edition of Oysters, they grew up in late November, and then were well mummified under the snow. so, no mushroom omelet with Oysters for you till autumn :) but you created a nice photos! wet green mossy tree bark goes so well with a snow!

Why you think those oysters cannot grow anymore? They looked pretty healthy.

Well, I am not sure, ofc I cant judge by the photo! The sources I used, state that:

The season for oyster mushrooms begins in September and lasts until November-December (the mushrooms grow most massively in September-October). Oyster mushrooms can normally tolerate temperatures that fall to sub-zero levels. Under favorable climatic conditions, the mushrooms also appear in May-June.

so, March-April is just dont feels like a right time for the new harvest. Voyla!

From what I've read, oysters grow in warm periods of winter, but slowly.

yes, that is true. they can do it!

Look at these little oysters a month ago. The temps were still negative in the area.

ps. there are also good tags to use, like #foraging #naturalmedicine
#oysterfungus #flora and #eating arent the best tags to use (in my humble opinion)

😋 😉 😎

@qwerrie Thanks a lot for the added value!
