Hello #moviesandtvshows friends, today I want to talk about the third and final anime adaptation of Berserk. This is a series that consists of two seasons of twelve episodes each, is categorized as Dark Fantasy and is aimed at an adult audience, as it has quite explicit scenes, you can find it on the streaming platform Crunchyroll.
Berserk is originally a manga by acclaimed author Kentaro Miura and has had a total of three anime adaptations. The first two adaptations develop the first arc of the manga called the "Golden Age", while the third happens chronologically after the first two.

Guts, better known as the black swordsman, is a skilled warrior who has earned a reputation of being highly dangerous, so he is in the crosshairs of extremist religious groups, as well as being pursued by horrible creatures that torment him during his journey of revenge against the man who cursed him and his former companions, luckily, along the way he finds new allies who will help him in his journey through a world that is immersed in a spiral of events never seen before.
Berserk is presented to us as a completely fantastic story, full of monsters and situations perhaps found in the nightmares of some. Consisting of two "arcs" or seasons, the first twelve episodes show us the protagonist in an all-out fight to save a woman who used to be his sparring partner.
These first chapters also serve as a harsh criticism of religion and especially of the Catholic Church, as it develops a hunt for heretics that has too many points in common with the Inquisition and the Crusades. The representation of the tortures exercised in the name of "god and faith" in some moments becomes quite graphic and disturbing, which left me with a feeling of discomfort knowing that situations like that really came to happen some centuries ago, it is a point of reflection of how vile the actions of human beings can become.

It is very clear the author's contempt for the attitudes of "holiness" of some elements of the Catholic Church and I think some religious in general, showing them as fanatics without any kind of empathy, who only live with the idea that they and their religion are right and others are simply heretics who deserve torture and death, I found excellent the way they managed to intertwine the story of Guts with the harsh criticism of the Inquisition and the Crusades, also gave it a fantastic touch that sat extraordinarily well.
The first season culminates with a totally exciting event that presents us with incredible fights, action and lots of blood, where we can witness the drive and determination of the main character, who despite being surrounded by monsters, never decides to give up. At this point there is a message that I love and I would like to highlight: you have to make your way through adversity. For me this is one of the central messages of Berserk because, boy, does Guts face a lot of adversity during his journey, but that doesn't make him give up his fight.
There is only one word with which I can describe the second season of this series: magic. In the last 12 episodes we are fully introduced to the world of sorcery and manipulation of the elements, of course without leaving aside the monsters, brutality and violence that characterize Berserk. It is a season full of mysticism, where many references to mythological creatures from Northern Europe, Africa and Asia appear. It is also when we get to know the reason for the name Berserk.

We leave slightly behind the theme of religion, to immerse ourselves in a war-political conflict of conquest, where we are again presented with a veiled criticism of society, wrapped in the supernatural and fantastic aura of this series. This time we are presented with the emergence of a "perfect" nation that is the dream of all the homeless and refugees of a war, of which they themselves are participants, this nation comes to save the oppressed and needy, but the hidden reality behind their "perfection" is very different from the one they show, does it sound familiar?
One of the things I liked most about Berserk, is the way in which the antagonists represent the selflessness and vileness of the human being and how they are usually disguised as "savior leaders", but the reality is that they are only moved by their own interests, being able to sacrifice anyone in their path, They are completely Machiavellian characters that sadly represent the reality of many leaders of our reality, it is incredible that in a fantasy world full of monsters, the most vile actions are committed by humans themselves.
Something that I think it is also important to highlight is that Guts, the protagonist, is not a perfect character, he is not a Superman with an untainted morality, on the contrary, he is someone who has suffered since birth and has a behavior corresponding to the hardships he has lived. Sometimes he is unfriendly, disinterested and cold, but who wouldn't be when he lives marked by a curse that causes him to be pursued by demonic monsters.
Unfortunately, the series ends with an open ending and given that has been several years since it was released, five to be exact, we can assume that there is no hope of having a third season to continue enjoying Guts' journey, despite this I think it is a story worth watching because although it is left with an open ending, the two arcs close satisfactorily.
The story, definitely that the strong point of this series, is a reference in terms of fantasy and horror in anime and manga. From the first arc I'm left with the action and gore, while the magic and mysticism of the second one completely grabbed me.
Undoubtedly the technical aspects overshadowed what could have been a great adaptation, the animation is horrible and when I say horrible I really do not exaggerate, I think it is one of the worst I've seen, it looks like a video game cinematics of 15 years ago, despite having come out only six years ago, this really seems to me a lack of respect for the original work, since the illustrations of Miura's manga are true works of art and deserve to be represented as that.
The sound effects don't do the series any favors either, the worst is the sound of the swords, they sound like metal pipes clashing together, something unforgivable when the main weapon of the protagonist is a sword.
The dubbing doesn't seem very outstanding to me either, it's not terrible, but I think there are some seiyus that don't provide the necessary emotion.
There is no background to the protagonist's current situation, they simply assume we know the events prior to this series and present them in sparse "flashbacks".
Overall it is a series that I recommend watching just for the story, the plot is pretty good because the source material is good and they make practically no changes to the original manga story, however, I think it is not a series that you can watch without first watching the previous adaptations, you can enjoy it, yes, but to properly understand the magnitude of everything that happens, especially the closing of the first arc, you need to watch the 1997 adaptation and the 2012 movie trilogy.
In conclusion, if you want to properly enjoy the story of Berserk you have to see the three adaptations available, the good thing about all this is that they are few episodes and if you like the genre of fantasy, horror and gore, definitely, you will not regret watching it.

Hola amigos de #moviesandtvshows, hoy quiero hablar de la tercera y última adaptación al anime de Berserk. Esta es una serie que consta de dos temporadas de doce episodios cada una y está catalogada como Fantasía Oscura y va dirigida a un público adulto, ya que posee escenas bastante explícitas, la pueden encontrar en la plataforma de streaming Crunchyroll.
Berserk es, originalmente, un manga del aclamado autor Kentaro Miura y que ha tenido un total de tres adaptaciones al anime. Las dos primeras adaptaciones desarrollan el primer arco del manga llamado la "Edad Dorada", mientras que la tercera sucede cronológicamente después de las dos primeras.

Guts, mejor conocido como el espadachín negro, es un habilidoso guerrero que se ha ganado una reputación de ser altamente peligroso, por lo cual se encuentra en la mira de grupos religiosos extremistas, además de ser perseguido por horribles criaturas que lo atormentan durante su camino de venganza en contra del hombre que lo maldijo a él y a sus antiguos compañeros, por suerte, en el camino encuentra nuevos aliados que lo asistirán en su recorrido por un mundo se sumerge en un espiral de sucesos nunca antes vistos.
Berserk se nos presenta como una historia completamente fantástica, llena de monstruos y situaciones que quizás se encontrarán en las pesadillas de algunos. Consta de dos "arcos" o temporadas, los primeros doce episodios nos muestran al protagonista en una lucha incesante para salvar a una mujer que antiguamente fuera su compañera de lucha.
Estos primeros capítulos también fungen como una dura crítica a la religión y en especial a la iglesia católica, ya que se desarrolla una caza de herejes que tiene demasiados puntos en común con la inquisición y las cruzadas. La representación de las torturas ejercidas en nombre de "dios y de la fe" en algunos momentos llega a ser bastante gráfica e inquietante, lo cual me dejó una sensación de incomodidad al saber que situaciones como esas realmente llegaron a suceder algunos siglos atrás, es un punto de reflexión de lo vil que puede llegar a ser las acciones del ser humano.

Es muy claro el desprecio del autor por las actitudes de "santidad" de algunos elementos de la iglesia católica y creo que de algunos religiosos en general, al mostrarlos como fanáticos sin ningún tipo de empatía, que solamente viven con la idea de que ellos y su religión están en lo correcto y los demás son simplemente herejes que merecen tortura y muerte, me pareció excelente la forma en la que lograron entrelazar la historia de Guts con la dura crítica a la inquisición y a las cruzadas, además de que le dieron un toque fantástico que le sentó extraordinariamente bien.
La primera temporada culmina con un evento totalmente emocionante que nos presenta increíbles peleas, acción y mucha sangre, donde podemos presenciar el empuje y determinación del personaje principal, que a pesar de verse rodeado por monstruos, nunca decide rendirse. En este punto hay un mensaje que me encanta y me gustaría resaltar: hay que hacerse paso a través de la adversidad. Para mí este es uno de los mensajes centrales de Berserk porque, vaya que Guts se enfrenta a muchas adversidades durante su camino, pero eso no hace que desista de su lucha.
Solo hay una palabra con la que puedo describir la segunda temporada de esta serie: magia. En los últimos 12 episodios nos introducen de lleno al mundo de la hechicería y de la manipulación de los elementos, por supuesto que sin dejar de lado a los monstruos, la brutalidad y la violencia que caracterizan a Berserk. Es una temporada llena de misticismo, donde aparecen muchas referencias a criaturas mitológicas tanto del norte de Europa, como de África y Asia. También es cuando logramos conocer el porqué del nombre Berserk.

Dejamos ligeramente atrás el tema de la religión, para sumergirnos en un conflicto bélico-político de conquista, donde se nos presenta nuevamente una crítica velada a la sociedad, envuelta en el aura sobrenatural y fantástica de esta serie. Esta vez nos plantean el surgimiento de una nación "perfecta" que es el sueño de todos los desamparados y refugiados de una guerra, de la que ellos mismos son partícipes, esta nación llega a salvar a los oprimidos y necesitados, pero la realidad oculta tras su "perfección" es muy diferente a la que muestran, ¿les suena familiar?.
Una de las cosas que más me ha gustado de Berserk, es la forma en la que los antagonistas representan el desinterés y la vileza del ser humano y como normalmente van disfrazados de "líderes salvadores", pero la realidad es que solamente se mueven por sus propios intereses, siendo capaces de sacrificar a cualquiera a su paso, sin ningún remordimiento, solo para lograr su cometido, son personajes completamente maquiavélicos que tristemente representan la realidad de muchos líderes de nuestra realidad, es increíble que en un mundo de fantasía lleno de monstruos, las acciones más viles sean cometidas por los mismos humanos.
Algo que creo que también es importante destacar es que Guts, el protagonista, no es un personaje perfecto, no es un Superman con una moralidad impoluta, al contrario, es alguien que ha sufrido desde su nacimiento y que tiene un comportamiento correspondiente a las penurias que ha vivido. A veces es antipático, desinteresado y frío, pero ¿Quién no lo sería cuando vive marcado por una maldición que hace que sea perseguido por monstruos demoniacos?.
Lamentablemente, la serie termina con un final abierto y dado que ya tiene varios años de haber sido lanzada, cinco para ser exactos, podemos asumir que no hay esperanzas de contar con una tercera temporada para seguir disfrutando del viaje de Guts, a pesar de esto creo que es una historia que vale la pena ver porque aunque queda con un final abierto, los dos arcos cierran satisfactoriamente.
La historia, definitivamente ese el punto fuerte de esta serie, es un referente en cuanto a fantasía y horror en el anime y manga. Del primer arco me quedo con la acción y el gore, mientras que la magia y misticismo de la segunda me atraparon por completo.
Sin duda los aspectos técnicos opacaron lo que pudo haber sido una gran adaptación, la animación es horrible y cuando digo horrible de verdad que no exagero, creo que es una de las peores que he visto, parece una cinemática de videojuego de hace 15 años, a pesar de haber salido solo hace seis, esto de verdad me parece una falta de respeto a la obra original, ya que las ilustraciones del manga de Miura son verdaderas obras de arte y merecen ser representadas como eso.
Los efectos de sonido tampoco le hacen ningún favor a la serie, lo peor es el sonido de las espadas, parecen tubos de metal chocando entre sí, algo imperdonable cuando el arma principal del protagonista es una espada.
El doblaje tampoco me parece muy sobresaliente, no es terrible, pero creo que hay seiyus que no prestan la emoción necesaria.
No hay ningún antecedente a la situación actual del protagonista, simplemente asumen que conocemos los acontecimientos anteriores a esta serie y los presentan en escasos "flashbacks".
En general es una serie que recomiendo ver solamente por la historia, la trama es bastante buena porque el material de origen es bueno y prácticamente no realizan cambios en la historia original del manga, sin embargo, creo que no es una serie que se pueda ver sin antes mirar las adaptaciones anteriores, se puede disfrutar, sí, pero para entender correctamente la magnitud de todo lo que pasa, sobre todo el cierre del primer arco, es necesario ver la adaptación de 1997 y la trilogía de películas del 2012.
En conclusión, si quieren disfrutar correctamente de la historia de Berserk tienen que ver las tres adaptaciones disponibles, lo bueno de todo esto es son pocos episodios y si les gusta el género de fantasía, horror y gore, definitivamente, no se van a arrepentir de verla.

Por tus post sobre esto , la tengo en mi lista. Lo que leí en un articulo es que el maga seguiría a pesar de la muerte del creador. otros artistas se harán cargo de todo. Yo voy a hacer el esfuerzo de encontrar estas versiones que recomendaste para verlas cuando tenga tiempo.

Siempre he tenido intriga en saber esas cosas siniestras que hicieron la gente de la inquisición. Cuantas maldades se hicieron en nombre de Dios, tenían tantas ancias de poder, que se llevaban al que fuera por delante.
Por tus reseñas he podido ver por lo menos algo de esas películas que me he perdido.
La verdad que no soy amiga de los animes, pero es porque no los he visto. Pero sólo las imágenes se ven bonitas.

Antes de llegar a lo malo pensé que era la que más te había gustado de las tres adaptaciones pero lo de la animación, sonido y traducción creo que le puede restar mucho atractivo.

Es que en realidad la historia es muy buena, los arcos que adaptaron lo hicieron bien porque casi no cambiaron cosas del manga, pero visualmente es una caca y el sonido otra más, creo que para el año en que fue lanzada había suficiente tecnología para hacer algo decente, no esta porquería 😅

I haven't even heard of berserk before, I just finished seeing the last season of Attack on Titan and was looking for a new anime series to add to me list.
