Science-Fiction (Sci-Fi) - My Most Favorite Movie Genre

in Movies & TV Shows3 years ago (edited)

Greetings!

When I was young I got vivid memories of watching shows, series, and movies on our very first television set, a "Black and White" television. Although I was not able to understand English back then (I was less than 7-years-old) I still came to like the TV series Knight Rider, Airwolf, McGyver, Quantum Leap, and Star Trek. And when our television set was upgraded to a color I also came to like the series Highlander and the X-Files.

Little did I know that some of the series that I mentioned have an element of science-fiction (Sci-Fi). I only came to know about genres when I was in High School. Highlander is considered a science fantasy. Science fantasy is a combination of science fiction and fantasy. The X-files T.V. series is mainly considered as Sci-Fi that mostly takes on the subject of aliens and the paranormal. Star Trek is a Sci-Fi T.V. series that mostly happens in outer space.

And who would forget Star Wars? Although Star Wars is not a hundred percent Sci-Fi because it has elements of fantasy it is still a Sci-Fi movie since it has elements of science fiction. Star Wars, as opposed to Star Trek, are mostly movies that tackle the story of an intergalactic republic with the Jedi as the cornerstone of keeping the peace.

Highlander, The X-Files, Star Trek, and Star Wars are the ones who ignited my love for the Sci-Fi genre. Little did I know that Sci-Fi will be my most favorite genre until the movie "Avengers: Endgame" cemented my thoughts about my most favorite genre (Although Avengers: Endgame is considered as an action, superhero, adventure, science fiction, fantasy movie).

Why Sci-Fi is my Most Favorite

Let's take a look back at the T.V. series that ignited my love for Sci-Fi particularly Highlander, Star Trek, and Star Wars. I always remember the scene of Highlander when the protagonist Connor MacLeod was being struck by lightning. In the case of Star Trek, the scene of the warp drive or impulse drive is the one that always comes to my mind. In Star Wars, there are the lightsaber battles, the out-of-this-world characters, the Millenium Falcon, and the hyperdrive/warp drive are the ones that come to my mind when I remember them. All of them have a superb storyline.

With that said, I came to love Sci-Fi and became my most favorite because of their dazzling effects, interesting characters. and superb science-fiction storylines. There's also The X-Files where its style of suspense sci-fi thriller storytelling leaves me glued to our T.V. screen during its heydays.

Below are some of my favorite Sci-Fi movies to date...

"Avatar"
a Sci-Fi movie that I watched many times

We all knew that Avatar again took the driver's seat a few weeks as the highest-grossing movie of all time after it was re-released in China. The former number is "Avengers: Endgame"

At first, I thought this movie was only "one of those movies". But when I started to watch its first two minutes I was glued and I went on to watch it many times not knowing that it was already the highest movie of all time back in 2009.

The movie tells the story of a handicapped marine named Jake and his Na'Vi avatar take the side of that Na'Vis drove the humans out of their homeworld named Pandora.

I like this movie because of its state-of-the-art CGI and superb storyline.

"Avengers: Endgame"
my most favorite Sci-Fi movie to date

Make no mistake, Avengers: Endgame is by far everyone's favorite including me (Avengers: Endgame is categorized as action, superhero, adventure, science fiction, fantasy).

Avengers: Endgame is the culmination of Marvel's MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) that spans 22 movies within three phases that begins with the first Iron Man movie in May of 2008 (23 movies to be exact, including Spider-Man: Far From Home which was released three months after Avengers: Endgame). Although the last movie of phase three is "Spider-Man: Far From Home", Avengers: Endgame is considered by fans to be the ending movie, which is true because Spider-Man: Far From Home never delves into the events of Avengers: Endgame. Fans are only treated to a scene when Peter said that he "missed" Tony.

This movie has become my most favorite to date because it combines all the emotions and tears of all the first 21 movies that come before it. The CGI is of course state-of-the-art. The storyline is well, beyond superb since it far exceeds my expectations. I love this movie because it makes me crave more from MCU. And I can't wait to see the wheel of phase four rolling.

Star Wars: Return of the Jedi
the first Sci-Fi movie I came to love

Star Wars: Return of the Jedi is the first movie that I watched on the Star Wars franchise. I was not aware at the time that the movie has two prior movies shown before Return of the Jedi. At first glance, I was blown away by its visual effects, especially the lightsaber, and also the characters. The storyline is superb too.

Return of the Jedi is my most favorite of all the episodes when it comes to the storyline. But Return of the Jedi has beaten by Phantom Menace in the lightsaber battle category when Qui-Gon Jin and Obi-Wan Kenobi battled it out with Darth Maul. The Force Awakens, as for me, has the darkest storyline because of Ben Solo (Kylo Ren) killing his father, Han Solo.

And that's my favorite genre and some of my favorite sci-fi movies. What about yours?

Until next time. Keep safe.
