Hello everyone, today I bring you a review of a series that has an impressive history, characters and animation, I talk about dragon prince this series has given us a lot with only three seasons and with many more confirmed hopefully continue to impress us, without more to say start.
Synopsis:
A long time ago the kingdom was divided in two on one side the human kingdoms and on the other the magic kingdom of Xedia where elves and dragons inhabit, recently the human king killed the dragon king and destroyed the egg of the dragon prince leaving him without descendants, so the queen sends her best killers the moon elves to kill King Harrow and his son Ezran, Callum and and his brother Ezran are the human princes they find the egg of the dragon prince and together they decide to return the egg with their mother to end the cycle of hate of both kingdoms and bring peace at last, they are accompanied by Rayla a young elf killer who decides to help them so that there is peace.
Analyzing the characters:
- Callum: He is the prince of passage also called half prince, because he is the son of a previous marriage of his mother and therefore does not qualify to inherit the throne being the heir his younger brother Ezran, he is quite sarcastic, kind and intelligent, being these his greatest qualities, he suffers from an inferiority complex because he does not show many of the qualities of a prince (being good at riding a horse, cutting the sword, etc.) ) but when he discovers that he can use magic he begins to gain confidence and pride in himself, he is a very good strategist although he usually exaggerates in his explanations of how to take advantage of the abilities of his companions, a very notable feature of his artistic side since since he was a child he is capable of drawing quite well and spends his free time drawing, He has an eidetic memory since it is enough for him to see something once to draw it or imitate it. An example of this is the case in which he copied perfectly the spell that Claudia showed him before. Like his mother, he has an unwavering conviction to protect all life, so he rejected dark magic, which is based on making magic at the expense of the lives of magical beings, but he still used it to save Rayla and the dragon, which left him in a coma, but in his trance he was able to learn about the arcane of heaven and finally connect with it.
- Ezran: Crown Prince of Katolis and Callum's younger brother, he is described as a happy and playful child who has a great connection with animals, he has a pet called Cebo that is a luminous frog, he gets along with his older brother constantly playing and making jokes but always supporting each other, he has the ability to talk to animals something that his brother did not believe but that in the end he ends up believing. He has a strong bond with the dragon prince, listening to his thoughts even when he was in his egg, despite his young age he assumed his father's position after his death although at first he was hesitant because he admired him a lot and feared that he would not become the same as him, in the end he decided to accept his responsibility and follow his own path which was different from his father's, choosing peace over war.
- Rayla: She is a moon elf and a killer, her parents were part of the dragon guard, an elite group of elves in charge of protecting the dragon's nest but they failed in this task and disappeared. She was raised by Runaan and her husband Ethari both of whom gave her a lot of love and from a very young age she showed great skill in combat as well as a strong attachment to living things, at the beginning of the story she was sent to the human kingdom with the mission to kill with the king and the prince of Katolis in retaliation for the humans killing the dragon king and the dragon prince's egg, On their way to the castle they meet a group of guards the order was to kill them all but she hesitates and ends up letting one escape, which showed how unprepared she was to kill, In order to vindicate herself, she infiltrates the castle by herself and searches for the human prince. She meets Callum, a young human who does not hesitate to put his life in exchange for his brother's, but he ends up ruining the deception by making her angry and chasing them both, Upon arriving at Viren's secret studio when he was about to attack Ezran reveals the egg of the dragon prince making everything change because for the first time peace was possible she decides to help them even though Callum did not trust her because recently she tried to kill them but in that Claudia appears and does not have much time to think so everyone runs when she discovers that Callum is capable of using magic, She tried to dissuade Runaan from stopping the attack but he refused because the dragon king's death was to be avenged in the end the three of them make a vow that day to take the dragon prince to his mother and make a difference, she is the most realistic of the group always being the voice of reason and also a good friend to both, although she is aware of the prejudices that exist against the elves she cannot avoid feeling affected by them feeling bad when Callum tells his aunt that he is a blood-sucking monster, usually keeps many secrets and does not usually open with others so it is uncomfortable when people are very sincere after spending much time with the princes could open with them and tell them their past, ends up falling in love with Callum who although they had a difficult start began to understand overcoming every obstacle together and getting closer, it was very difficult to express their feelings but then ends up accepting them and now is happy with it.
- Claudia: She is Viren's daughter and Sorem's sister, she is quite distracted and strange, since she was young she has been familiar with dark magic to such an extent that it seems natural to her, because of this she doesn't hesitate to take the life of the magical creatures in order to obtain their magic, she has a great loyalty to her father by her side in spite of the horrible things she does. Although she has a cold attitude towards dark magic, she has a weakness for beautiful things. Mostly she treats dark magic as a way of equalizing the elves who are born with magic and is envious of those who are born with magic. Due to the constant use of dark magic her hair has become increasingly white showing the price of using dark magic.
- Soren: He is Claudia's older brother and captain of the Guards, he is presented as Callum's cretinous friend who doesn't respect him and constantly calls him half a prince, he is in charge of training him in fencing where he is constantly mocked for his lack of talent, his intelligence is limited so he doesn't understand sarcasm and is easy to fool even though he is a great soldier who puts orders first, he is quite impulsive which combined with his overconfidence can generate disasters, He loves his sister very much even though he keeps bothering her about her quirks due to dark magic, just like his sister has a strong desire to please his father but he realized his evil and decided to serve King Ezran instead of his family even if it meant separating from Claudia showing true honor, even though his father and the rest consider him a fool he was able to coordinate very well the rescue of Ezran proving to be a mastermind which surprised everyone.
- Amaya: Aunt of the princes and one of the commanders of the human army, she is deaf and communicates with sign language, her lack of hearing doesn't seem to limit her ability as a warrior being one of the strongest fighters in the series, she loves her nephews very much showing her affection for them in contrast to her cold personality as a warrior, She is very distrustful of the elves as she believed the rumors that the moon elves are bloody murderers who drink blood, was in charge of protecting the gap (the border between Katolis and Xedia) during a battle was captured and taken to Lux Aurea there she befriended Janai a sun knight and sun fire elf who equals her in strength before the siege of Storm Spire fixed the strategy to protect the dragon queen and Zim . For its creation and development the team had to study sign language.
- Aanya: She is the young queen of Duren, she is almost the same age as Ezran and already possesses all the qualities of a worthy ruler, her mothers died tragically at the hands of Avizandum the dragon king when she was a baby so from a young age her crown was threatened by coups, assassination attempts and conspiracies but she knew how to defeat them all and become a great queen for Duren, She currently maintains good relations with Katolis and Xedia since after surviving the assassination attempt organized by Viren to make the kingdoms unite against Xedia she had a meeting with Opeli, Corvus and Barius where she decided to send her army to Storm Spire to save King Ezran and the dragon prince Azymondias.
- Azymondias (Zim): Is the dragon prince, stolen from Storm Spire and separated from his mother the prince remained captive in Viren's secret study for many years until he was found by the human princes and Rayla, determined to return the egg with its mother in Xedia and change things embark on a journey to bring peace to the kingdoms, During the voyage the egg falls into a frozen lake and begins to die so his only option was to be born by sacrificing a primary rock he is born and becomes an adorable baby dragon full of life and curiosity, was taught to fly by Prince Ezran with whom he shares a strong bond.
- Viren: He is the first antagonist of the series, advisor to King Harrow and according to his great friend, is a dark wizard and a person quite cunning and intelligent, before the start of the series went with King Harrow to kill the Dragon King a creature that was thought invincible to achieve it was to his nest and stole the egg of the dragon prince telling the King that had been destroyed, is a rather ambitious and power-hungry man who does not hesitate to resort to ruthless methods in order to obtain power, and is quite manipulative, constantly deceiving others into doing his will by making them believe that his actions are noble, all in order to convince soldiers to do terrible things in the name of humanity. Because of his many years of using dark magic he has acquired a monstrous appearance and constantly needs to drain magic in order to preserve his human form, his hatred of elves can rise to obsession as he keeps elven coins that he converted and has a sadistic side as he delights in the horror that this caused to Runaan. Despite his intelligence he is not immune to manipulation as Aavaros could easily manipulate him by exploiting his greed and lust for power.
- Aavaros: Hidden antagonist and Viren's mysterious ally, although his origins are uncertain, we know that he is a celestial elf and that he is responsible for giving humans dark magic. He was also imprisoned by the dragon king Avizandun in an unknown area behind the mirror he kept in his nest, This was found by Viren who after much study managed to contact him showing himself as his servant and ally does not hesitate to exploit the ambition of Viren for their own purposes, although their objectives are not yet clear played an important role in the following seasons.
Relations between the characters:
- Callum and Ezran: They are two very close brothers, they both care about each other although they have their differences since Callum usually underestimates Ezran for being a child calling him a liar when he says he talks to animals, although these two have gone through all kinds of difficulties they always supported each other and when they separated it was very difficult for them but they trusted that both would fulfill their role, Ezran was quite surprised when he found out that his brother was Rayla's boyfriend but in the end he supports both their relationship.
- Callum and Rayla: They had a difficult beginning because Rayla was sent to the castle of Katolis to kill Ezran and his father but after meeting Callum and chasing him around the castle they find the egg of the dragon prince in Viren's secret studio making him change his mind saying go to Xedia with the princes and make a difference, at first they did not trust each other because Rayla hid many things from the princes and Callum had many prejudices against the elves but by traveling and living together they became close, Rayla is centered but when she relaxes she can be as sarcastic as Callum although unlike Callum she keeps her emotions to herself because she doesn't want others to see her vulnerable. When they traveled through Xedia they both became a couple, connected mainly by their appreciation of life and their particular sense of humor, they didn't hesitate to risk their lives to save each other. Callum loves Rayla deeply so when she wanted to sacrifice herself to protect the dragon queen this attempt to convince her not to let herself be tied down by the past and that it was only her pride that spoke which ended up in an argument between the two but after discovering the truth about her parents she decides to support her unconditionally in the end both decide to stay and fight during the battle it was obvious that Callum was worried about Rayla so Ezran told him to go see her but he did not know that Viren was also with her as he watches in horror as Rayla sacrifices herself by jumping with the villain from the top of the mountain and does not hesitate to jump to her rescue but this results until he finally admits his feelings for her by spreading his wings and confessing his love for Rayla they both kiss and watch Zubelia wake up together.
- Claudia and Callum: They have known each other since they were children and despite the fact that they both grew up together, Callum could never understand Claudia completely, she was undoubtedly Callum's platonic love however Claudia showed no signs of feeling the same or did not give importance to what she felt, she is totally loyal to her father so she did not hesitate to betray her Callum in order to fulfill his orders, she felt guilt and remorse but was convinced that it was the right thing to do after her betrayal both cut all ties of friendship as he felt disappointed in her friend.
- Soren and Claudia: They are two brothers who complement each other since Sorem is quite cunning but not very intelligent while Claudia is intelligent but very absent-minded. Both usually joke and laugh at each other but they really love and care about each other so when they had to separate it was very painful because even though Sorem loved his sister he could not stand to see his father revered for his evil, Claudia couldn't choose between her father and him so she left with a goodbye during the battle. He met his father although I doubt at first he decided to do his duty and killed Viren's lure which Claudia watched with horror.
- Viren and Claudia: It has difference of Soren which sees like a nuisance, Viren worries about his daughter and is with who shows but affection, possess a strong enough relation since to the being dark magicians they can connect easily besides that is the only one that understands the strange form to express itself of Claudia, Even though Viren's actions are atrocious, she always finds an excuse to justify it by showing the extreme degree of loyalty she has to him. Even though they do not have a functional relationship, it is obvious that Claudia will risk her life to save him as it looks at the end of the third season.
Conclusion:
This series has given a lot to talk about with only three seasons, let's hope that the quality doesn't diminish with so many confirmed seasons and that they don't leave us with an open ending as in other series, I'll wait for them with anxiety because after what we've seen so far anything can happen.
