If I had to choose one of my favorite actors nowadays that would be Jake Gyllenhaal, his way of acting in films is quite impressive, I never lose the chance when watching a film where he´s included in the cast. Jake Gyllenhaal has done many performances through his entire life, I think one of his most recognized films is Donnie Darko where he acts as the main character named Donnie, I think he has quite a talent when he needs to act as a person with psychological issues but don´t get me wrong, he does an amazing job when he acts as an average person, for example, Brokeback Mountain.

There are a lot of films starring Jake but this time I´d like to take my time and talk about this film I watched recently called Nightcrawler. This films tells us about the story of Lou Bloom, a quite interesting person that tries to find a job, without any success, Bloom enters into the business of nightcrawlers, in other words, people that takes pictures and videos of accidents like a murder, these pictures or videos are bought by the media. Finally, Lou Bloom likes this job and manages to earn a lot of money from this, however, he becomes more and more greedy through the whole movie, reaching it to the last consequences.

We could talk all day about how great and interesting is Lou Bloom as a character, not gonna lie, he´s crazy, in general terms, he´s a person who is a social misfit but also really smart, he´s a person obsessed with perfectionism and it´s amazing to see how he reaches his goals even if that means reaching to the last consequences like I´m saying, we´d talk about his psychology all day but that´s not my intention, he reminds me of Travis in Taxi Driver, the difference being Travis is better written than Bloom, but in the end, Bloom is more or less like Travis. There are also other characters through the entire film but somehow they end up being just the shadow of the acting of Jake, don´t get me wrong, they are good but in the end the characters just end being a tool for Bloom, everything is calculated.

I´m not sure if the film tries to be a social criticism but it sure is a good reflection of the real world, we see all those nightcrawlers desperate to get the first photos or videos of any accident, willing to do anything, that´s exactly how the real worlds works, people doing anything they can in order to be successful, not caring if that means hurting someone else. This film talks about the power that media has nowadays too which kind of reminds me of the power social media has nowadays, we are not aware of how easily manipulated we can be thanks to the media.

Something very cool about Nightcrawler is the rhythm that manages to maintain, I never felt bored while watching this film, the tension is very well managed through. the entire movie.I recommend to watch Nightcrawler, tt is a very good film that manages to keep us attentive at all times, Jake's performance is wonderful and seeing how the protagonist does whatever it takes to achieve what he wants is really fascinating, Nightcrawler also works as a reflection of our current society and how we are willing to do whatever it takes to success.
