Hello, internet people, I hope you're ok. Continuing with my Hallyu wave posts, today I want to talk about what is the best Drama (in my opinion) I've seen, it's about the first season of Voice (only that one I've seen).
¡Hola, gente de internet, espero que estén bien. Siguiendo con mis post de onda Hallyu, hoy quiero hablar de el que para mi es el mejor Drama que he visto, se trata de la primera temporada de Voice (solo esa he visto).
The first thing to clarify is that the seasons (despite remembering some aspects of the previous one, their stories are quite separate and not closely related to each other (which is why I didn't bother to finish the series, although I will see if I can).
Lo primero que debemos aclarar es que las temporadas (pese a recordar algunos aspectos de la anterior, sus historias son bastante a partes y no guardan estrecha relación entre sí (razón por la que no me preocupé en terminar la serie, aunque veré de hacerlo).
Now, let's start with the review.
Ahora sí, empecemos con la review.
Voice is a Korean crime drama. Premiered on January 14, 2017, it was a resounding success ratings-wise and had the Korean population on the edge of their seat with every episode. Everyone was talking about the series and who the killer would be.
Voice es un Drama (novela o serie coreana) policíaco. Estrenado el 14 de enero de 2017, fue un rotundo éxito a nivel de raiting y tenía a la población coreana al borde del asiento con cada episodio. Todos hablaban sobre la serie y sobre quién seria el asesino.
Moo Jin Hyuk is a top-notch detective, nicknamed "Mad Dog" because of his penchant for hunting down and catching criminals with unnatural speed. His life spirals out of control when he is tipped off that his wife was murdered by a serial killer, after a failed 112 attempt to locate and help her. On the other hand, Kang Kwon Joo is a young voice profiler who loses her father (who was a policeman) to the same killer on the same night.
Moo Jin Hyuk es un detective de primera categoría, apodado «Perro loco» dado a su afición de cazar y atrapar delincuentes con una rapidez antinatural. Su vida se descontrola cuando es avisado que su esposa fue asesinada por un asesino serial, luego de un intento fallido del 112 por ubicarla y ayudarla. Por otra parte, Kang Kwon Joo es una joven experta en perfiles de voz quien pierde a su padre (que era policía) a manos del mismo asesino, en la misma noche.
Kwon Joo has an acoustic ability beyond human limits, a gift she contracted after an accident she had when she was a child, and whose ability she decided to perfect after the loss of her father. Both characters will work together in making 112 a diligent operational center, now called Goldem Time and which, in a way, will cover up the secret investigations of both protagonists about the murderer of their relatives (a case previously closed with the disagreement of both characters who doubt the guilt of the imprisoned "perpetrator".
Kwon Joo tiene una habilidad acústica fuera de los límites humanos, don que contrajo después de un accidente de pequeña y cuya habilidad decidió perfeccionar después de la pérdida de su padre. Ambos personajes trabajarán juntos en hacer del 112 un centro operativo diligente, ahora llamado Goldem Time y el cual, de cierta forma, encubrirá las investigaciones secretas de ambos protagonistas acerca del asesino de los familiares de ambos (caso previamente cerrado con la inconformidad de ambos personajes que dudan de la culpabilidad del «perpetrador» encarcelado.
For the realization of a competent task force (Kwon Joo's Golden Time project), two more agents are recruited: language expert Park Eun-soo (to assist foreigners during emergency calls) and computer specialist and Hacker Oh Hyun-ho. Both start their work at Golden Time, being indeed quite useful, especially Oh Hyun-ho whose skills are required quite regularly.
Para la realización de un grupo operativo competente (el proyecto Golden Time de Kwon Joo) se procede a reclutar a dos agentes más: la experta en idiomas Park Eun-soo (para atender a los extranjeros durante las llamadas de emergencias) y el especialista en informática y Hacker Oh Hyun-ho. Ambos inician su trabajo en el Golden Time, siendo en efecto, bastante útiles, sobre todo Oh Hyun-ho, cuyas habilidades son requeridas con bastante regularidad.
Having finished with the synopsis, we will start talking about the series, yes, to give my opinions. In the first few minutes of Voice, we enter into tension because it begins with the brutal murder of Detective Moo's wife. It's an extremely grim and distressing scene. The setting is perfect, a lonely neighborhood: the snowfall starting to fall... everything makes you think that the protagonist of the scene is alone and helpless.
Habiendo acabado con la sinopsis, empezaremos ya a hablar como tal de la serie, sí, a dar mis opiniones. En los primeros minutos de Voice, entramos en tensión porque empieza con el brutal asesinato de la esposa del detective Moo. Es una escena sumamente lóbrega y angustiante. La ambientación es perfecta: un vecindario solitario, la nevada que empieza a caer... todo te hace pensar que la protagonista de la escena está sola y desamparada.
We also note the ineptitude of the 112 team in handling the situation since, they are precisely the ones who put the victim in mortal danger.
También notamos la ineptitud del equipo de 112 al manejar la situación ya que, son ellos precisamente quienes ponen a la víctima en peligro mortal.
Let's start breaking down the characteristics that make a good drama or audiovisual content: story, script, character development, villain, conclusion.
Empecemos a desglosar las características que hacen un buen Drama o contenido audiovisual: Historia, guion, desarrollo de personajes, villano, conclusión.
The story in Voice is excellent, it's totally awesome and the most curious of all is that the cases of Golden Time are real cases that have occurred in South Korea over the years, compiled and represented in the series, with fictional characters. This gives it an added value, since it makes us generate double empathy with the victims and their suffering.
La historia en Voice es excelsa, es totalmente asombrosa y lo más curioso de todo es que, los casos del Golden Time, son casos reales ocurridos en Corea del sur a través de los años, recopilados y representados en la serie, con personajes ficticios. Esto le da un valor agregado, ya que, nos hace generar el doble de empatía con las víctimas y su sufrimiento.
It isn't a typical detective story, it has a lot of details that make it stand out. Even the side stories are very well grounded and structured within the main story, so there are no "fillers". The secondary scenes (which of course involve the secondary characters) keep fundamental details for the union of the whole Golden Time work team and that is why they have a lot of importance.
No es una típica historia policíaca, tiene muchísimos detalles que la hacen sobresalir. Incluso las historias secundarias están muy bien fundamentadas y estructuradas dentro de la historia principal, por lo que, no hay «rellenos». Las escenas secundarias (que por supuesto involucran a los personajes secundarios) guardan detalles fundamentales para la unión de todo el equipo de trabajo del Golden Time y es por eso que tienen mucha importancia.
As for character development... although in the end all the characters go through this process (which is much appreciated), the most noticeable changes revolve around our two main protagonists and the beloved villain of this production.
En cuanto al desarrollo de personajes... aunque al final todos los personajes pasan por este proceso (cosa que se agradece mucho), los cambios más notorios giran en torno a nuestros dos protagonistas principales y al querido villano de esta producción.
In the first instance we see how detective Moo, before the death of his wife, is joking and sociable, as well as committed to his work (a lot, something that already brought him problems with his wife), later, when he loses her, he goes astray and we see him in mental misery, so much so that the police force decides to give him a leave of absence. When he returns to the police and is recruited for the Golden Time, he doesn't get along with Kwon Joo at all and is even irascible, violent and unpleasant with her.
En primera instancia vemos como el detective Moo, antes de la muerte de su esposa, es bromista y sociable, además de comprometido con su trabajo (mucho, cosa que ya le traía problemas con su esposa), posteriormente, cuando la pierde, se descarría y lo vemos en la miseria mental, tanto así que el cuerpo decide darle una licencia. Cuando vuelve al cuerpo de policía y es reclutado para el Golden Time no se la lleva para nada bien con Kwon Joo e incluso es irascible, violento y desagradable con ella.
As the series progresses, Moo works side by side with Kwon Joo, gets to know her better and the fact that she is also looking for the same killer he is, makes the detective start to love her (not in a sentimental way but in a brotherly way), all until they become very good friends within the force.
Conforme avanza la serie, Moo va trabajando codo a codo con Kwon Joo, la conoce mejor y el hecho de que ella también esté buscando al mismo asesino que él, hace que el detective empiece a quererla (no de forma sentimental sino fraternal), todo hasta que se hacen muy buenos amigos dentro del cuerpo.
Kwon Joo is sweet and shy at first, before her father's death, and then, when she returns to South Korea after her trip to the United States, she seems cold and distant. This shielding is gradually dissolved by detective Moo, unconsciously through the talks they have and the things that happen when they are together or in contact.
Kwon Joo por su parte se muestra dulce y tímida al principio, antes de la muerte de su padre y después, cuando vuelve a Corea del Sur tras su ida a Estados Unidos, se nota fría y distante. Ese blindaje es disuelto poco a poco por el detective Moo, inconscientemente a través de las charlas que sostienen y de las cosas que pasan estando juntos o en contacto.
Our villain (I won't name him to avoid spoilers) is cold, calculating, supremely intelligent, ruthless and manipulative and has always been so. However, the development in him is noticeable in his mental decline as, first we see him arrogant and self-confident and later (even though he is still arrogant) he is shattered, stripped of his security and it is something he can't stand.
Nuestro villano (no pondré el nombre para no hacer el spoiler, es frío, calculador, supremamente inteligente, despiadado, manipulador y así ha sido siempre. Sin embargo, el desarrollo en él se nota en su declive mental ya que, primeramente lo vemos arrogante y seguro de sí mismo y posteriormente (auqnue sigue siendo arrogante) se nota destrozado, despojado de su seguridad y es algo que no puede soportar.
While we're on the subject of our villain, the performance of this actor is extremely masterful. His character is intimidating to insurmountable levels and his aura is, to say the least, horrifying, you have no doubt when you see him on screen that he is an uncontrolled psychopath and you fear for anyone who crosses his path as his motive for murder is simply the fun and power that comes from having a life in his hands.
Ya que hablamos de nuestro villano, la interpretación de este actor es sumamente magistral. Su personaje es intimidante a niveles insuperables y su aura es, cuando menos, hórrida, no dudas cuando lo ves en pantalla de que es un psicópata descontrolado y temes por cualquiera que se cruce en su camino ya que su móvil de asesinato es simplemente la diversión y el poder que le proporciona el hecho de tener una vida entre sus manos.
The performances of the actors are greats as are the little plots that unfold with the calls to Goldem Time. I have many favorites but one of them is the plot of the boy asking for help since his mother attacked him and is looking for him and also Hyun-ho.
Las interpretaciones de los actores son brutales al igual que las pequeñas tramas que se desarrollan con las llamadas al Goldem Time. Tengo muchas preferidas pero una de ellas es la trama de el niño que pide ayuda ya que su madre lo atacó y está buscándolo y también la de Hyun-ho.
It's one of the most catching episodes and Voice has the particularity of making you think about one possibility during an episode and the plot twist ends up making it totally different. That's one of the things I like the most about this Drama, it's unpredictable. (By the way I loved Yesung's acting throughout the Dramaand with this episode he really shined).
Es uno de los episodios más atrapantes y es que Voice tiene la particularidad de hacerte pensar en una posibilidad durante un episodio y el giro en la trama termina haciéndolo totalmente diferente. Es una de las cosas que más me gustan de este Drama, que es impredecible. (Por cierto que amé la actuación de Yesung en toda la serie y con este episodio se lució bastante).
The ending is shocking and gratifying because you feel as good as the protagonists after such a long and sordid journey. The series has a well-structured ending with an excellent closure. Undoubtedly and as I said, the best Drama.
El final es impactante y gratificante pues, te sientes tan bien como los protagonistas después de tan largo y sórdido viaje. La serie tiene un final bien estructurado y con un cierre excelso. Sin dudas y como ya dije, el mejor Drama.
