Kill Bill [ENG | ESP]: a masterpiece | una obra maestra

Starring Uma Thurman
Protagonizada por Uma Thurman

Normally I prefer to see new films than to rewatch the well-known ones, but in the same way that rereading is the truly literary thing, watching a movie a second time makes it more enjoyable. As David Gilmour said - the film critic, not the Pink Floyd member - the truth is that "The second time you see something is really the first because only by knowing how it ends can you judge how perfectly realized it is from the beginning" . And that's what happens to me with this movie.

At this point there should not be many who haven't seen this movie, so I will take some liberties when it comes to talking about its benefits. The story of Kill Bill is simple and could be summed up in a few sentences and one reason: revenge. On her wedding day, a professional assassin, Beatrix Kiddo (Uma Thurman) is attacked by some members of her own gang, survives, and falls into a coma. Four years later he wakes up and prepares to hunt them down one by one. For those who haven't seen it yet, but know the posters and have read about Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, I clarify that it's not that the film has a second part, but that the two volumes are part of the same film of just over four hours long.

Throughout the story we get to know the members of the gang that Beatrix, alias Black Mamba, was part of, as she looks for them to get revenge.

Vernita Green (Vivica A. Fox), the only one who changed her identity after separating from the gang and starting a family; O-Ren Ishii (Lucy Liu), the Japanese mafia queen who lives in Tokyo; Budd (Michael Madsen), who appears to have fallen the lowest, living in a trailer and being a security guard at a nightclub in Arizona; Elle Driver (Daryl Hannah), Beatrix's main nemesis and apparently the one who most wants to kill her again when she finds out that she has survived; and finally, the leader of the group, whose identity and image remain hidden throughout the first half of the story: Bill (David Carradine).

As in all Quentin Tarantino films, there's a lot of action and a lot of blood in this story. A lot. Perhaps more than in the others, which is no small thing. However, even if it's a bloody director, the film relies on notable elements. The direction is excellent and makes use of different cinematographic genres throughout the film: drama, suspense, action, spaghetti western, anime, it has color scenes, black and white scenes, it pays tribute to martial arts films (like those Kung Fu movies of the 70s) and samurai movies; in short, it uses multiple resources to create a very well-made product.

The performances are great, the action sequences are very good (especially Beatrix's fight against Gogo and the Crazy 88, members of the O-Ren mob) and unlike the director's other films where bullets and bullets abound. firearms, in Kill Bill everything revolves around knives and martial arts. The photography is magnificent (and Tarantino makes use of his well-known shots) and the montage as well, but in my opinion, in addition to the mixture of genres, the most valuable thing about the film is the script. The phrases, the story and especially the non-linear way in which it's told, jumping forward to show Beatrix's hunt and backwards to meet her former teammates and her relationship with Bill make one feel trapped and discover from little by little the keys to the plot, filling in the gaps and answering the questions that arise in each scene.

And in addition, Tarantino's sense of humor is also present and the story is surrounded by an air of oriental legend that is evidenced mainly in the flashbacks with Pai Mei (martial arts teacher) and in all the reverence that surrounds the sabers of the man of Okinawa, Hatori Hanzo, maker of the most beautiful and deadly swords that can exist. Having in the script all these little stories, accessory but important to the plot, helps the story remains in memory.

There are many remarkable scenes. In the fight in Japan, there's a moment when the movie changes to Black and White and then to a blue backlight which are two of my favorite parts. The fight with Vernita, the resurrection of Beatrix, and also the dialogues with Bill, full of deep reflections and philosophical questions, make it possible to see all the more than four hours at a stretch without getting bored. If any of you have not seen this movie, I hope I have made you want to see it. I confess that at first Tarantino seemed too bloody for my taste, but what I like about Kill Bill (and Inglorious Basterds) is that beyond the action and the blood, there's a very well written story, one that clings to memory and makes you want to see it again and again.

Saludos.

The Kill Bill movies are some of the best I've seen! :) I was so shocked and a little terrified the first time I saw them (I was like 12 years old and I wasn't ready for it XD) but I knew they were amazing despite all the horror, and they definitely piqued my love for movies and good stories.

It really must have been shocking for a twelve years old, but I'm glad you recognized the greatness in it. Thank you for reading. Greetings.

Oh yes it was! 😅 But I loved it. Although most of the jokes and crazy details of the plot I understood them better years later.

So many people have recommended me this movie many times but I don't know why I have not watch this movie at I am a huge fan of movies and I watch so many movies and web series I have like so many platforms subscribe to

Well after this I think I should give it a watch

Well I'm glad I convinced you then. Even if at the end you don't like it I think it's a worth watching movie. Thank you for comment.

well as you said i will give ita watch

Saludos.

Tarantino did his best movie (so far) with this one.

I believe he did

¡Saludos! @cristiancaicedo

I watched this film many years before it was originally released during a period where I was exploring films from previous decades. I enjoyed it a lot and it is certainly one of the best ever directed by Tarantino.
