Wes Anderson is one of my favorite film directors, not only because he has made several films that I have loved (Isle of dogs, Moonrise Kingdom, The Grand Budapest Hotel) but especially because I love how he works with the visuals, the colors, the paintings, plans and sequences, all supported by scripts full of a very intelligent sense of humor.

Some have said that it's a love letter to the world of journalism, which seems obvious because it's set in a newspaper office; However, more than the press, or liberty of expression, I think that what this film is really talking about is Literature, the written word, that is, the art of telling stories, something Wes Anderson knows how to do very well.
De allí que haya esperado con ansias el estreno de su más reciente producción The French Dispatch, la cual en pocas palabras cuenta la historia de un periódico ficticio, The French Dispatch of the Liberty, Kansas Evening Sun (gracioso desde el nombre), publicación estadounidense que es editada en una pequeña ciudad francesa, también ficticia: Ennui. For moments, while I was watching this movie, I was reminded of La Vie mode d'emploi by Georges Perec, one of the most delightful literary mosaics I've ever read and which, like The French Dispatch makes you feel like you are seeing a thousand things in one and that one is something special; in this case, good cinema.

But, as in every Wes Anderson film, the highlight is the visual: the paintings, the planes, the colors, each scene is an aesthetic, artistic delight; It almost makes you want to stop the movie every moment to admire how well thought out and executed the shots are.

I also really liked the fact that most of the characters are secondary, with short appearances; which, added to the fact that there are stories within each story, generates a compelling game between fiction and reality. Some characters are real within the plot, others are characters within the reports or the chronicles that the writers write and all this leads to seeing the film as a whole, a society, a world, something greater than the sum of its parts that make it up. Yes, a few stand out more, but in general, it is a story made of small stories that support it and I loved that.
También me gustó mucho el hecho de que la mayoría de los personajes son secundarios, con participaciones breves; lo que, sumado al hecho de que hay historias dentro de cada historia, genera un juego atrapante entre ficción y realidad. Algunos personajes son reales dentro de la trama, otros son personajes dentro de los reportajes o las crónicas que escriben los escritores y todo ello conlleva a ver la película como un todo, una sociedad, un mundo, algo más grande que la suma de las partes que lo conforman. Sí, algunos pocos destacan más, per en general, se trata de una historia hecha de pequeñas historias que la sostienen y eso me encantó.

The French Dispatch not that kind of movie. It has different cinematographic styles (black and white, cartoon, vintage) many dialogues, some of them in two languages and at great speed so if you don't have the knowledge of certain things or don't pay due attention, the viewer may feel a little bit lost. Now that if, despite this, there is someone who wants to dare to a different experience and see what cinema can be when it is treated as an artistic expression rather than as a business, then I think they can get to enjoy this film that, according to some critics, it's the best Wes Anderson has done so far, has anyone seen it? Sin embargo, soy consciente de que no muchas personas disfrutan de estas cosas, o al menos no tanto como otros lo hacemos; la mayoría busca en el cine entretenimiento, algo rápido y ligro de consumir para relajarse, divertirse. Tiene diferentes estilos cinematográficos (banco y negro, caricatura, vintage) muchos diálogos, algunos de ellos en dos idiomas y a una gran velocidad por lo que si no se tiene el conocimiento de ciertas cosas o no se presta la debida atención, el espectador puede sentirse un poco perdido. Ahora que si, a pesar de ello, hay alguien que quiera atreverse a una experiencia diferente y a ver lo que el cine puede ser cuando se trata como expresión artística más que como negocio, entonces creo que sí puede llegar a disfrutar esta película que, según algunos críticos, es la mejor que ha hecho Wes Anderson hasta ahora, ¿alguien la ha visto? los leo en los comentarios.

I didn't like this film, I saw it because of its directors and especially because I loved The Grand Budapest Hotel, however, I found this movie to be too convoluted and too weird for my tastes. It was actually one of the biggest disappointments related to films in recent months for me.
You're right about that: it's convoluted. I believe one the main things that some people may see as a flaw is that this movie doesn't tell a story. In Grand Hotel Budapest (or Isle of dogs) there's one story and the many characters that appear do it around that single journey. But The French Dispatch tells several stories, short stories, all related to one person in a not so close way. Besides, the script is not as easy to follow as that other. So, I understand your disappointment and in case you haven't seen it I recommend you Moonrise Kingdom. I think you may like it. Greetings.
