Christmas movies are the tradition for many at this time, it is a good family pastime to sit and watch a variety of movies that really abound and there are plenty to choose from, personally my family and I also like to watch Christmas movies, but more those that do not necessarily keep the theme of the time, we mainly like those that were released for the time, such as the Lord of the rings, so I tend to be very picky when investing time in a Christmas themed movie, because usually the new generation ones leave much to be desired.
Las películas navideñas son la tradición para muchos en estas épocas, es un buen pasatiempo en familia sentarse a ver una variedad de películas que en verdad abundan y hay bastante para escoger, personalmente a mi familia y a mí nos gusta también ver películas navideñas, pero más aquellas que no necesariamente guardan la temática de la época, principalmente nos gustan las que se estrenaban para la época, como las del Señor de los anillo, por eso suelo ser muy exigente a la hora de invertir tiempo en una película con temática de navidad, porque por lo general las de la nueva generación dejan mucho que desear.
Through streaming and subscription channels options abound, but just by watching the trailer you are already disappointed, with a few exceptions like 2019's Klaus and Christmas Chronicles 2018 on Netflix, then you resign yourself to watching any of the Christmas movies of the past that were actually very good, one of the most recent the Grinch in 2018 or the timeless Home Alone from the 90's, but except for these movies, what keeps getting attention this time of year are the more acclaimed movies that are reserved to be released at this time such as Spider-Man: No Way Home which has like a lot of hype for everyone, thanks to the great publicity work it has received.
A través de los canales de streaming y suscripción abundan las opciones, pero con solo ver el trailer ya te decepcionas, con algunas excepciones como Klaus del 2019 y Christmas Chronicles 2018 en Netflix, entonces te resignas a mirar cualquiera de las películas navideñas del pasado que realmente fueron muy buenas, una de las más reciente la del Grinch en 2018 o la eterna Home Alone de los años 90, pero salvo estas películas, lo que sigue llamando la atención en esta época son las películas más aclamadas que se reservan para ser estrenadas en esta época como Spider-Man: No Way Home que tiene como mucho hype a todos, gracias al gran trabajo publicitario que ha recibido.

However, recently sitting as a family ready to watch a movie together, we were checking the streaming services we have contracted to choose from, and while we were checking on HBOmax a Christmas movie called 8-Bit Christmas caught our attention, and as usual for us the first thing we do is watch the trailer to see if it convinces us, although they are not always reliable, but it left a very good impression, mainly to me it caused me a lot of laughter just watching some scenes of the trailer, something that had not happened to me for a long time, so that was enough to decide to watch it.
Sin embargo, hace poco sentados como familia dispuestos a ver una película juntos, revisábamos los servicios que tenemos contratados de streaming para escoger, y mientras revisábamos en HBOmax nos llamó la atención una película navideña llamada 8-Bit Christmas, y como es costumbre para nosotros lo primero que hacemos es ver el trailer a ver si nos convence, aunque no siempre son de fiar, pero nos dejo una muy buena impresión, principalmente a mi me causo mucha risa solo ver algunas escenas del trailer, algo que no me ocurría desde hace mucho tiempo, asi que eso fue suficiente para decidir verla.

8-Bit Christmas tells us about the efforts of a father to teach his little daughter the true meaning of Christmas, and on a visit to her parents' house, he finds in the living room his old 8-bit Nintendo Home Entertainment System, and it seems a great opportunity to tell his daughter about his journey to get what, for the time of her childhood, was the biggest and greatest Christmas gift. It is obvious that the movie is set in the late 80's, and it is loaded with many pop culture details that I felt very identified with, and even though they are not part of the main story, they are very attention-grabbing.
8-Bit Christmas nos cuenta de los esfuerzos de un padre por enseñar a su pequeña hija el verdadero sentido de la navidad, y en la visita a la casa de sus padres, encuentra en la sala de la casa su vieja consola de 8 bit Nintendo Home Entertainment System, y le parece una gran oportunidad contarle a su hija su travesía para obtener lo que, para la época de su niñez, era el mayor y mas grande regalo de navidad. Es obvio que la película esta ambientada a finales de la época de los 80, y esta cargada de muchos detalles de cultura pop con los que me sentí muy identificado, y aunque no son parte de la historia principal, llaman poderosamente la atención.
One of my favorites that immediately triggered my memories was a poster of the movie The Goonies, one that I am sure many enjoyed in their childhood, another one that only appeared for a second was the rubber band that was placed on the watch glass to prevent it from scratching, something that many of us used in those years. It also brought me many memories the scene where the kids gather at the house of the rich kid of the neighborhood to be invited to play with the Nintendo, the only fact of gathering at the house of the only kid who had a video game console with his friends, is something that transported me to my childhood.
Esos pequeños detalles por momentos te provocan por segundos un viaje en el tiempo, uno de mis favoritos y que de inmediato activo mis memorias fue un poster de la película los Goonies, una que estoy seguro muchos disfrutaron en su niñez, otro que solo apareció por un segundo fue la banda de goma que se colocaba sobre la mica del reloj para que no se rayara, algo que muchos usamos en aquellos años. También me trajo muchos recuerdos la escena donde los niños se reúnen en casa del niño rico del vecindario para ser invitados a jugar con la Nintendo, el solo hecho de reunirse en casa del único niño que tenía consola da video juegos junto a los amigos, es algo que me transporto a mi niñez.

But these details that I describe, do not make the film exclusive only for people who lived the pop culture like me, it also has its fans among the new generations and for sure they will enjoy it a lot, but you can also enjoy it a lot if you are not a fan of these details, because the film is loaded with many comic moments, nostalgic and emotional, as the relationship between father (Steve Zahn) and son (Winslow Fegley) as a central part of the film, and the efforts to get the Nintendo as a gift, although at times you get distracted by the details of the 80's era, and as there are many it is difficult to overlook them, which can be a negative point for the film.
Pero estos detalles que describo, no hacen exclusiva la película solo para personas que vivieron la cultura pop como yo, también tiene sus fans entre las nuevas generaciones y de seguro la disfrutaran mucho, pero también puede disfrutarse mucho si no se es fan de estos detalles, porque la película esta cargada de muchos momentos cómicos, nostálgicos y emotivos, como la relación padre (Steve Zahn) e hijo (Winslow Fegley) como parte central de la película, y los esfuerzo por lograr que le obsequien la Nintendo, aunque por momentos te distraes con los detalles de la época de los 80, y como son muchos es difícil pasarlos por alto, lo que puede ser un punto negativo para la película.
As for the cast, I thought it was a success, they are all excellent and talented comic actors, and the special touch is given by Steve Zahn, who is becoming more and more established as an actor, especially after giving us an excellent performance in the series The White Lotus; These details help to make the film not to be one more in the pile of Christmas failures, however, it is clear that it does not offer an innovative plot, and seems to lean more to the Gamer world, which may cause many to prefer not to watch it, besides looking more like a 1 hour and 30 minutes propaganda than a movie.
En cuanto al elenco, me pareció un acierto, todos son excelentes y talentosos actores cómicos, y el toque especial se lo da Steve Zahn, que se consagra como actor cada vez más, especialmente luego de brindarnos una excelente actuación en la serie The White Lotus; estos detalles colaboran a que la película no sea una más del montón de los fracasos navideños, sin embargo, es claro que no ofrece un argumento innovador, y parece inclinarse mas al mundo Gamer, lo que puede provocar que muchos prefieran no verla, además de parecer más que una película, una propaganda de 1 hora y 30 minutos.

No tenia idea de este film. Actúa Neil Patrick Harris, puede ser que le de un chance. Pero es que casi todo lo de navidad me espanta, yo soy el Ebenezer Scrooge criollo jajaja. Si comparto el sentimiento las películas navideñas no son lo mío, pero está me causo mucha gracia por el tema cómico y con los detalles con los que me identifique, y no tengo una película favorita de navidad, mis hijos si jeje

No soy de ver películas navideñas a menos que me las encuentre por casualidad en un canal de TV, pero sinceramente al ver tú reseña me llamo poderosamente la atención, nunca había escuchado sobre ella y ahora estoy muy animada para poder verla.
